Fremantle Dockers v Port Adelaide Power Tips, Predictions and Match Preview - The Power too classy for the injured-ravaged Dockers

Jackson Oldham 11 Jul 2018
  • The Dockers and Power clash in a Round 17 matchup at Optus Stadium

Port Adelaide will be looking for their sixth consecutive win and to tighten their grasp on a top-four spot when they face the Fremantle Dockers at Optus Stadium on Sunday, July 15.

The action from Optus Stadium gets underway at 4:40pm (AEST). All the action be seen live on Fox Footy from 4:30pm.

Match Preview

Port Adelaide get the perfect opportunity to secure a top-four spot in the next month. They face the Dockers without Fyfe and Sandilands, the Giants at Adelaide Oval, the Bulldogs in Ballarat and the Crows in the showdown.

The Power will expect to walk away from Optus Stadium with a victory, despite their only match at the new stadium finishing in a 42-point defeat to the West Coast Eagles. The Power will take confidence from the fact that the Brisbane Lions, who had only recorded one win at the time, finished with a 55-point victory against the Dockers at Optus Stadium just two weeks ago.

The Dockers will be counting their lucky stars they only walked from their match against Melbourne in Darwin with a 54-point loss. The Demons broke the AFL record for the biggest inside 50 differential, winning that 78-28, but couldn’t translate that to a 100 point victory. They were extremely wasteful, kicking 13 goals and 24 behinds as the Dockers had no answers.

The Dockers finished the match with just two marks inside 50 and by Ross Lyon’s own admissions, they “Simply weren’t good enough.” With no Fyfe and Sandilands again, and arguably a better opposition, I cannot see the Dockers getting within 40 points of the Power.

Match Odds

Fremantle - $3.55
Port Adelaide - $1.30

Team News

Nat Fyfe (Hamstring) and Aaron Sandilands (Calf) are both at least a fortnight away, which means the Dockers will need to adjust to life without their two superstars. Hayden Ballantyne (Ankle) and Andrew Brayshaw (Groin) are both likely to miss at least two weeks of footy with their injuries.

Tom Jonas (Knee) is a huge loss for Port Adelaide. He will miss between 4-6 weeks. Jasper Pittard (Hamstring) and Sam Gray (Ankle) are both listed as TBC on the AFL injury list, but could return as soon as this week to face the Dockers.

Stats

  • The last five matches between these two teams have been won by the home team. The home team has won these matches by an average of 46.4 points.
  • The Dockers have lost by a combined 99 points in their last two matches without Sandilands and Fyfe. The Dockers have allowed 66 scoring shots in these two games.
  • The Power is aiming to win six matches in a row for the first time since then won eight in a row back in the early part of 2014.

Tips and Prediction

Without Fyfe and Sandilands, the in-form  Power should be far too good for the Dockers. I’m happy to take Port Adelaide at the line.
