The AFL heads to China on Saturday May 19 when the Gold Coast Suns take on Port Adelaide in Shanghai.

The 3.15PM encounter is the second between the two sides at the venue after the history making clash in 2017 and the action can be seen on Fox Sports.

Match Preview

It has been tough going for Gold Coast this season. The Suns are yet to play a game at their normal home ground of Metricon Stadium, with that venue out of action until June as the cleanup from the Commonwealth Games continues.

Consequently, Stuart Dew's side have travelled to all parts. Cairns, Perth and Ballarat are among some of the venues they have played at this year on the way to wining just three games. Those victories came in the first five rounds. They have dropped their last three and in Round 8 they were smashed by Melbourne to the tune of 69 points at the GABBA.

On the same weekend, Port Adelaide secured a win in thrilling stages in the 'Showdown' against local rivals, Adelaide. Steven Motlop scored a goal wiht just 25 seconds left on the clock to give his new side a five point win.

The Power have won five from eight and look to have an edge over the Suns in a number of areas. They rank 7th in the competition for points scored this year, while the Suns are 16th. Ken Hinkley's side are 3rd for total disposals and the Suns are 17th.

They should have too much depth around the ground in this one. Look for Robbie Gray, Chad Wingard and Paddy Ryder to continue their good form. Gray was the match winner last weekend, booting six goals. The Suns, who will be missing Tom Lynch, will need massive games from the likes of Jack Martin, Touk Miller and Steven May. But the task at hands looks to be beyond them.

Match Odds

Gold Coast Suns $5.50
Port Adelaide $1.15

Team News

Sam Day and Steven May David Swallow is in some doubt with a knee injury. He joins a growing injury list that includes the likes of Tom Lynch and Pearce Hanley. Port Adelaide have no immediate injury concerns and shouldn't make too many changes to their winning line up.

Stats

Gold Coast's first ever win in the AFL came against Port Adelaide in Round 5 of 2011 but since then it has been one way traffic with the Power winning the previous eight.

Last year in Shanghai, Port were 115 points winners against a dismal Suns outfit that could only manage three goals for the game.

Prediction and Tips

Port Adelaide will win this comfortably.
