Eagle Farm Tips - May 27

Race 2 - Lord Mayor’s Cup 1600m

An open contest over the mile here with more than half the field already 1600m winners. Race favourite Religify will no doubt lead them with Col ‘n’ Lil and Mystic Opal in hot pursuit. The recent efforts of Elle Lou have impressed me enough to put her on top here. Her last start effort in the Dark Jewel at Scone was sensational. Trapped three deep without cover and spotting the leaders eight lengths, she motored home to grab fourth prize over the 1400m. The step up to 1600m looks ideal based on that run. She has drawn nicely in gate five and should be a lot closer in the run. She will be chasing Religify home. Good each-way value.

Race 4 - Channel Seven Premier’s Cup 2200m

In what I believe is the bet of the day, NZ stayer Zambezi Warrior stands out here after his outstanding Australian debut two weeks ago at Doomben. Two starts in New Zealand prior to arriving on Australian shores had him ready for a tilt in the Chairman’s Hcp over 2000m won by front runner Stampede who is favourite for this event. Near last on the turn, he made up a ton of ground to finish fourth. It was one of the very few come from behind finishes worth noting on the soft track that day. He only meets Stampede a half kilo better here but is fresher, having his fourth start after a two month spell. He also has experience over further ground with two 3200m races under his belt so the distance won’t be an issue. He looks ready to win.

Race 6 - Glenlogan Park Stakes 1300m

Some very smart fillies and mares are lined up in this event with several winning chances amongst them. Recent black booker Miss Cover Girl is second-up and did trial very well last week however I think the weight here will be a telling issue. Race favourite Raiment has done everything right in her preparation and has faultless wet track form but her wide gate worries me. I am going with last start winner Miss Debutante who couldn’t have been more impressive in winning the Denise’s Joy Hcp at Scone two weeks ago. Jumping from the car park in gate 16, she was near last on the turn, copped a bumping on straightening, and still flew past them to win by 2.5 lengths going away. A repeat of that performance will see her mighty hard to beat. She is a dual acceptor however with connections nominating her for a start in race eight as well. Although stepping up in distance, if she starts in this race she will be hard to beat.

Race 6 - 3:07PM $200,000 ELLYCE GALVIN VICTORY STAKES (1200 METRES)

Ok, what to make of this race? I'm going for 2 tips within one bet. Confusing...perhaps. I like MUSIC MAGNATE because he is best horse in race and he’s going better than his poor last start effort suggests. Looked awesome recent barrier trial. But...if he is scratched and there is strong talk that he may be, then TAKEDOWN is the tip. He wilted with his big weight and being first up on a heavy track last start. Less weight here, easier field, and can be right on pace all way. Big, big show...if Music Magnate is out. Tumbler to rattle home from the back for minor money.

Race 7 - 3:47PM $125,000 ASCOT GREEN GUNSYND CLASSIC (1600 METRES)

Spring Tycoon is smart and should run into a hole, but the number 1 saddle cloth looks particularly good. DREAMS APLENTY has shown a clean pair of heals past 3 runs in this very grade and off an inside draw he should get every opportunity to do that again.

Race 8 - 4:23PM $60,000 BRC MEMBERSHIP Class 6 Plate (1300 METRES)

Very open affair but this mare MYSTIC OPAL might be pretty smart. She has improved so much every campaign that she's ready for Black Type racing. Is first up here but has an imposing first up record of 3 starts for 2 wins and a placing. Also has a great record this track - same as first up stats - so on many measures she shapes up as a very strong each way bet here. Privlaka is in form and can fill a place.

March 4 (Ric Chapman)

Race 5 - 2:42PM $60,000 STAV, ABBY & MATT WITH OSHER’S OPEN Handicap (1200 METRES)

Old boy who seems past his best...or is he? FLAMBOYER likes to lead and from this alley in this company, he should be able to do that on his ear. He can control the tempo and is classy enough, and fit enough, to just go bang once they straighten. Looks a good each-way bet for mine.

Race 6 - 3:22PM $60,000 SAPPHIRE RECRUITMENT QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1000 METRES)

Wow, so many talented young horses starting to bloom and spread their wings. I've gone for value here in PUBLISHING POWER. He strolled in at Ballina last start, yes only in maiden grade, but he led then just strode away as he pleased. Big rise in grade but wins brings confidence.

Race 7 - 4:02PM $100,000 SKY RACING TATTERSALL'S MEMBERS' CUP (1600 METRES)

You know what they say, once a mare hits form, keep backing her. Well BEATNIKS looked very good when 3rd this grade two runs back and backed that run up by winning in town this company last start. Meets them all on similar terms here and a mare in form folks...

February 18 (Ric Chapman)

Race 3 - 1:43PM $60,000 JIM BEAM OPEN Handicap (1200 METRES)

TOO GOOD TOO REFUSE looks a moral. Ran into the smart MODST IMPORTYANT at past 3 runs and acquitted himself really well each time. That horse would be a $1.30 chance here and would win by 5 lengths. Enough said.

Race 5 - 2:53PM $40,000 MT FRANKLIN Class 3 Plate (1500 METRES)

Former useful Godolphin galloper LEIDER has found both a home in Qld and form of late. This is harder but did look like his old self finishing too strongly last start. Should make presence felt at big odds.

Race 8 - 4:57PM $60,000 COKE ZERO QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1200 METRES)

As a 2YO OINK, yeah I know strange name, was one of his generations better ones. His form tapered off as he took on the top silk gallopers, but last styart when resuming, he looked back to his best with a come-from-behind win over the talented Ringo's A Rockstar. Can continue that good form here.

February 4 (Ric Chapman)

Race 3 - 1:42PM $60,000 OPTUS BUSINESS CENTRE Class 6 Handicap (1000 METRES)

There is just something so compelling about this bush horse QUATRONIC. He's very fast on his day and when allowed to lead on his own, can control races. From this draw he should receive that luxury and I think can hang tough and land the prize here. Tough field though.

Race 5 - 2:57PM $60,000 CARBONE DEVELOPMENTS Class 6 Plate (1400 METRES)

MYSTIC OPAL has won three of her past four and last start especially was impressive. Actually it was a career best performance and was so classy she looks the one to beast again. Is very fit, knows how to win and drawn to be unimpeded throughout

Race 8 - 4:55PM $60,000 QTIS 3-Years-Old Handicap (1200 METRES)

I just love this horse RINGO'S A ROCKSTAR. He's tough, talented and genuine. Right now he is in career best form and very fit. Drawn well here, is the best horse in the race and I think he's a great bet on Saturday

What Bets To Place at Eagle Farm Races

There are a number of ways to bet on horse racing this weekend from a standard win or place bet to quadrellas and multibets.

SINGLE: The most common bet. The single bet involves betting on your selection to win, place, or both (each-way). If betting each-way (see our guide for what an each-way bet is), the stake is doubled as you are betting on your selection to win, and also to place.

QUINELLA: A Quinella bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least three or more runners. To win a Quinella, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in any order

EXACTA: An exacta is exactly the same as a quinella. However, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in the correct order

TRIFECTA: A Trifecta bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a Trifecta, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in a given race.

FIRST4: A First4 bet is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a First4, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placegetters in a given race.

MYSTERY BET: A Mystery Bet takes the guess work out of picking a Trifecta and is generated by the betting agency’s computer. The computer system will randomly select three runners and if they fill the placings you win the Trifecta.

QUADDIE: A Quaddie bet, or Quadrella bet as it is fully known, is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race meetings. A quaddie is betting on the winners of four nominated races, which are typically the last four races of any meeting, and is a very popular bet.

MULTIBET: Multibets offer a great way to secure big winning returns on your bets as you combine various bets into one, and are proving to be an extremely popular way to bet. A multibet combines any number of bets from two to 25 into one single bet and dramatically increases the odds.

PATENT BET: A Patent bet is similar to a three-leg multibet but is made up of seven separate bets: three singles, three doubles and a trio. Where a multibet requires all selections to win for a return, a patent bet will yield a return from just one winner.

ALL-IN BETTING: All-In betting involves a bookmaker offering fixed odds on selected feature races prior to the declaration of the final field. All-In betting on the Melbourne Cup, for example, is available for the better part of 12 months leading into the event. The risk with All-In Betting is that you will not receive your stake back if your horse is scratched.
