Randwick Tips - December 16

There are many people anxiously awaiting the return to racing of this big strapping bush 3YO AWESOME PLUCK. When he won his maiden 7 months ago he did so by a big margin and with his ears pricked. He was green yet was clearly, clearly outstanding. He then came to an extra strong 3YO on a Saturday in town and met with both but overcame it and ran a great 3rd. Has just recently won a trial easily. Watch market.

Gai and Adrian's in form mare SEDANZER has won her past two and is a mare on the rise. Up in grade here but gets a weight relief and is a solid thing so should be able to shoulder and handle her increased difficulty here. Will be on pace and will be hard to catch.

This is a good field but gee it's hard to go past the form of INTERLOCUTER. This is his big test as he is stepping up to the top grade but he just seems to have the ability to raise his game to beat every rival he meets. MIGHTY LUCKY is ready to run his best race this campaign here and looks to quinella the race.

Previous Randwick Tips:

October 28

Lots of people waiting to watch this race. Will NICTOCK, winner of 7 of his 8 starts, charge to lead and break hearts again, or will Fickle Folly take him on softening him up, finally, for something to run over him. I think the latter and that something should be I THOUGHT SO. He's a quality sprint horse on his day who likes to get back and settle before unwinding. Will be about 6th for home but can charge late.

Good field this one. I like the top weight ZUMBERLINA because she is racing in terrific manner and has a weight relief. Should get back and be running on, but given she is 3rd up, she should be rock hard in fitness. Big show.

This is such a good field - it's actually a solid Group 3 grade race. As such TAKEDOWN appeals. He was slaughtered in fast run better grade race last start being 3 and 4 deep all way. Looks the best horse here and should win from Kaepernick.

October 21

The one thing we have really needed in Sydney is rain and it came on Friday. In arriving, it massively enhanced the chances of old DESTINY’S KISS in this. Yes he has a big weight, but he is very fit and in form. Pace will be on and he will rocket home as he loves it wet.

Because SINGLE BULLET appears the main speed in this race, he is the play. He's 3rd up here and is in terrific form. Quite often these 3YO short course races are won by those on the speed because the pace drops off mid race and the back markers have trouble making headway. Goodfella is flying but he will get back and charge late for 2nd.

Race 7 - 4:10PM ICD NIVISON (1200 METRES)

All the eyes will be on stablemates Dixie and Daysee again and rightly so as they have run the quinella at the past two runnings of the stakes races for mares in Sydney. But HEAVEN'S ABOVE wasn't in either contest. And this may be a little short for her as she will be a mile back but Diddums will make sure there is genuine pace in the race. Heaven's Above is a Gr 1 winner - that makes her very hard to hold out.

October 14

Race 4 - 1:50PM $200,000 TAB ANNIVERSARY HIGHWAY (1400 METRES)

Tremendous concept and what a reward for the club for putting this race on because it’s a cracker field. I'm on the mare PUMPKIN PIE. Her form reads poorly on paper, but in reality, her efforts were terrific in better grade. This is 4th up and with Hughie to ride and drawn the 2 gate, she should sit about 6th on the fence and sprint too well late from Galaxy Warrior and the in form Suncraze who should get a great run too.

Race 8 - 4:15PM $10 million THE TAB EVEREST (1200 METRES)

Outstanding race. All of them have claims if you spin their form certain ways but I'm on the filly SHE WILL REIGN. Her win first up was stunning. She got on wrong leg near bend, was a mile back, but just unleashed last bit because she wanted to win. Postage stamp on her back here and can break 34sec final sectional, so looks the play. Clearly Innocent and Chautauqua will be back in the ruck, the grey last on the bend, but both will charge home too.

Race 9 - 4:55PM $500,000 AQUALAND CRAVEN PLATE (2000 METRES)

Is HAPPY CLAPPER the 2nd best horse in Australia? Probably is and when he romps this in that fact probably will be confirmed. He’s Our Rokkii to grab 2nd.

October 7

INTERLOCUTER looks pretty smart. He was unluckily relegated last start after crossing the line first, and this trip at this stage of the prep is ideal. Ran in a barrier trial last week and cantered around. Is in superb touch. Has also drawn to get a great run, probably on the fence back in about 6th to the turn. Hogmanay is back in form and looks to run 2nd.

Old MIGHTY LUCKY seems to be back as good as he's ever been. And with the weight allowance if that's the case, he can win. This is his first time back to handicap grade and he comes in very well, especially after his gutsy effort in better company last start when 2nd. looks sooo well placed. Duca valentinois is first up but is talented enough to be in the frame.

Good, even field but I really like the way ACE HIGH led and dictated to his opponents. Nothing has changed from that race other than it's 200m further, but he kept going and really nothing made ground. Sanctioned is all class and chased him home in that race and should do the same while Colesberg will be huge odds but he’s been crying out for this journey.

What Bets To Place at Randwick Races

There are a number of ways to bet on horse racing this weekend from a standard win or place bet to quadrellas and multibets.

SINGLE: The most common bet. The single bet involves betting on your selection to win, place, or both (each-way). If betting each-way (see our guide for what an each-way bet is), the stake is doubled as you are betting on your selection to win, and also to place.

QUINELLA: A Quinella bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least three or more runners. To win a Quinella, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in any order

EXACTA: An exacta is exactly the same as a quinella. However, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in the correct order

TRIFECTA: A Trifecta bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a Trifecta, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in a given race.

FIRST4: A First4 bet is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a First4, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placegetters in a given race.

MYSTERY BET: A Mystery Bet takes the guess work out of picking a Trifecta and is generated by the betting agency’s computer. The computer system will randomly select three runners and if they fill the placings you win the Trifecta.

QUADDIE: A Quaddie bet, or Quadrella bet as it is fully known, is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race meetings. A quaddie is betting on the winners of four nominated races, which are typically the last four races of any meeting, and is a very popular bet.

MULTIBET: Multibets offer a great way to secure big winning returns on your bets as you combine various bets into one, and are proving to be an extremely popular way to bet. A multibet combines any number of bets from two to 25 into one single bet and dramatically increases the odds.

PATENT BET: A Patent bet is similar to a three-leg multibet but is made up of seven separate bets: three singles, three doubles and a trio. Where a multibet requires all selections to win for a return, a patent bet will yield a return from just one winner.

ALL-IN BETTING: All-In betting involves a bookmaker offering fixed odds on selected feature races prior to the declaration of the final field. All-In betting on the Melbourne Cup, for example, is available for the better part of 12 months leading into the event. The risk with All-In Betting is that you will not receive your stake back if your horse is scratched.

Randwick Race Track Description

Randwick is the largest racetrack in New South Wales and all races are run in a clockwise direction. It is a sweeping track with a rise from the 300m mark to the winning post in the home straight.

As well as the main track, Randwick Racecourse contains a second track known as Kensington. Due to large rainfall in the area, Kensington has been reconstructed using the Strathayr racing surface which is similar to Moonee Valley.

Strathayr is a turf cover over a base of sand, this means it is a free draining track which can take a substantial amount of rain without affecting the rating.
