Randwick Tips May 26 - free expert tips and best bets for Saturday

  • Best bets for Randwick each week.
Randwick racing

Royal Randwick is one of Sydney’s premier racecourses and is home to many prestigious Group 1 races throughout the autumn and spring.

As well as the main track, Randwick Racecourse contains a second track known as Kensington.

Due to large rainfall in the area, Kensington has been reconstructed using the Strathayr racing surface which is similar to Moonee Valley.

Randwick Tips - May 26

Race 1 - 11:25AM ENERGY AIR PLATE 2YO (1400 METRES)
Very strong autumn field of juveniles. This race will tell us if THE AUTUMN SUN is as good as the boom on him suggests. He stormed the fortresses to win on debut and will head to Queensland for Group 1 action if he runs over these. And he should. His stablemate Pembroke Castle can hang on for 2nd.

Race 5 - 1:55PM EML HANDICAP BM 85 (1600 METRES)
When they reached the 200m mark of the BM 95 last week, VELADERO was making a long sustained run at the lead. He wilted final stages and wound up a close up 5th. This is lengths easier and in fact 10 BM points lighter. Gets 2kg claim too and should dash late. Philosophy can run on for 2nd.

Race 7 - 3:15PM $150,000 MCKELL CUP (2400 METRES)
If it rains, get on DESTINY'S KISS for everything you've got. Even if it doesn’t he still shapes up as the one to beat. He is the superior 2400m stayer here and meets his main rivals Ecuador and Our Century a few kilos better at the weights. Is fit and ready for this now.

April 25

Race 2 - 1:20PM ARMISTICE PLATE (1200 METRES)

This might prove to be a very strong maiden. Orcein is pretty smart and is headed to city class but his stablemate PEMBROKE CASTLE might be even better. He has form this company from last campaign but it was his recent trial that made me sit up and take notice. Can really muster late. I can't wait to get on this bloke.

Race 5 - 3:10PM INVICTUS SPRINT (1000 METRES)

MALAHAT has a lot of sprinting potential and has already proven to be more than handy against much better opposition. Did run close up 7th in the Gr 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes last start. Resumes here with 2 trials under his belt and should be seasoned enough to knock this off.

Race 6 - 3:45PM ANZAC DAY CUP (1800 METRES)

Godolphin do get things right when they send one of their European gallopers to live and race in Australia and they may have done so again here with DROCHAID. He has form over long trips in England, yet in 2 starts in Australia thus far he has shown speed in shorter races. Up to a distance he should shine at here, he just looks to be a class above them to my eye.

April 21

Race 3 - 1:10PM TAB HALL MARK STAKES (1200 METRES)

There's every chance the very much out of form TAKEDOWN can find the front here. And that's a good thing. He has a big weight but is down in grade and when he leads he’s a completely different race horse. Will love this drop in class and hopefully mid race tempo. Will be good odds and should be in your numbers. Dothraki for 2nd as he's in form.

Race 4 - 1:45PM IGA LIQUOR FRANK PACKER PLATE (2000 METRES)

TANGLED looks the bet of the day. No fluke to run 2nd in the Gr 2 Tulloch Stakes, then 3rd in the Gr 1 ATC Derby. Both fields much better than this.

Race 7 - 3:35PM SCHWEPPES ALL AGED STAKES (1400 METRES)

To my eye there was just too much dominance in the win of TRAPEZE ARTIST at Gr 1 level last start. He rolled along with the leading pack, then came at the leader, who was Redzel no less, and put him away. This is an easier race and the trip looks fine for him. I think he wins comfortably from Brave Smash and Hartnell. Great field, but he just might be a superstar this bloke.

Randwick Tips - April 7

Race 1 - 11:30AM WIDDEN KINDERGARTEN STAKES (1100 METRES)

Legend Of Condor has been luckless in all 3 runs this time up in stakes grade so he rates highly here, but the filly ENBIHAAR rates even higher. She was runner-up in the Group 1 Blue Diamond and is in this on the limit. If she finds cover during the run she should flash home late and win.

Race 4 - 1:20PM NEWHAVEN PARK COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS FINAL (1400 METRES)

This is the best field we’ve seen for the Country Championships Final with so many chances. Suncraze is outstanding and will come home hard, Caerless Choice, likewise, is top shelf and is perfectly drawn, Don’t Give A Damn is fast and strong and looked great winning at Muswellbrook and who knows what Pumpkin Pie will do if she gets clean air. But NONE of them, to my eye, can run with this exciting 3YO VICTOREM. I think he sits just off the pace and smashes them.

Race 9 - 4:30PM THE STAR DONCASTER MILE (1600 METRES)

To my way of handicapping things, this 3YO KEMENTARI looks a weighted special. I know he faces the Winx curse (horses never back up after she man-handles them), but it was wet and he didn’t look to stretch out. On a fast track like this will be, different story. He has already run a staggeringly quick 1.33.7 over this trip here. That is one of the fastest miles ever here and he did that with 56.5kg. He has 51.5kg in this. And is drawn perfectly. Happy Clapper to run 2nd and Lanciato to fly home for 3rd. Can’t wait to back this 3YO though.

March 10

Race 2 - 1:10PM FIREBALL STAKES 1100m

HOUTZEN is the class and the one I'm on. She is just too fast for these. Won a recent barrier trial beating Happy Clapper and looked her awesome self in it.

Race 5 - 3:00PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS CHALLENGE STAKES (1000 METRES)

Terrific field, in many ways better than the Gr 1 Newmarket because we see the best sprinter in the world. He being REDZEL of course, and he looks way too good for this crack field. Home track, favourite distance, 2nd up.....please.

Race 6 - 3:35PM BISLEY WORKWEAR CANTERBURY STAKES (1300 METRES)

I like HAPPY CLAPPER here. He goes really well first up and has always been able to sprint with the top ones. He is at home here, which I love, and he trialed very impressively. Plenty of pace on here early too will help.

What Bets To Place at Randwick Races

There are a number of ways to bet on horse racing this weekend from a standard win or place bet to quadrellas and multibets.

SINGLE: The most common bet. The single bet involves betting on your selection to win, place, or both (each-way). If betting each-way (see our guide for what an each-way bet is), the stake is doubled as you are betting on your selection to win, and also to place.

QUINELLA: A Quinella bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least three or more runners. To win a Quinella, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in any order

EXACTA: An exacta is exactly the same as a quinella. However, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in the correct order

TRIFECTA: A Trifecta bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a Trifecta, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in a given race.

FIRST4: A First4 bet is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a First4, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placegetters in a given race.

MYSTERY BET: A Mystery Bet takes the guess work out of picking a Trifecta and is generated by the betting agency’s computer. The computer system will randomly select three runners and if they fill the placings you win the Trifecta.

QUADDIE: A Quaddie bet, or Quadrella bet as it is fully known, is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race meetings. A quaddie is betting on the winners of four nominated races, which are typically the last four races of any meeting, and is a very popular bet.

MULTIBET: Multibets offer a great way to secure big winning returns on your bets as you combine various bets into one, and are proving to be an extremely popular way to bet. A multibet combines any number of bets from two to 25 into one single bet and dramatically increases the odds.

PATENT BET: A Patent bet is similar to a three-leg multibet but is made up of seven separate bets: three singles, three doubles and a trio. Where a multibet requires all selections to win for a return, a patent bet will yield a return from just one winner.

ALL-IN BETTING: All-In betting involves a bookmaker offering fixed odds on selected feature races prior to the declaration of the final field. All-In betting on the Melbourne Cup, for example, is available for the better part of 12 months leading into the event. The risk with All-In Betting is that you will not receive your stake back if your horse is scratched.

Randwick Race Track Description

Randwick is the largest racetrack in New South Wales and all races are run in a clockwise direction. It is a sweeping track with a rise from the 300m mark to the winning post in the home straight.

As well as the main track, Randwick Racecourse contains a second track known as Kensington. Due to large rainfall in the area, Kensington has been reconstructed using the Strathayr racing surface which is similar to Moonee Valley.

Strathayr is a turf cover over a base of sand, this means it is a free draining track which can take a substantial amount of rain without affecting the rating.
