Rosehill Tips - September 23

Race 2 - 12:50PM COLIN STEPHEN QUALITY (2400 METRES)

Just been trying to work out how they are going to beat this top weight BROADSIDE. He's in form and he's getting fitter. Plus, and here's the thing I can't go past, he's the only speed. Should lead all the way.

Race 3 - 1:25PM TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

This is a really, really strong Class 2 Highway. We have two highly touted bushies in Don’t Give A Damn and MAJESTIC PEDRILLE. Both are relatively lightly raced but both will be midfield until turn. Both have a good turn of speed and both are drawn very handily. I'm on the mare Majestic Pedrille though. She ran 2nd in that strong BM 72 Godolphin Tiara at Muswellbrook recently and should be cherry ripe for this.

Race 7 - 3:55PM DE BORTOLI WINES GOLDEN ROSE (1400 METRES)

Race 8 - 4:35PM GOLDEN PENDANT (1400 METRES)

Outstanding gathering of mares. Many of these clashed recently when all beaten behind Ravi. But there were a couple of hard luck stories in that race and I'm on one of them here. DANISH TWIST was jog-trotting, held up, with 300m to go when all the others were full bore with their momentum up. She got going late and ended up 7th but I can assure you if she had been able to find clear room, she nearly wins. And this time around she will be big odds.

Race 2 – Highway Handicap (1200m) 12:45pm

Cracking Highway field. NORTHERN KNIGHT is an emerging bush star. He’s won 3 from 3 now and he can do it by leading or sitting off the pace. I think he takes a sit here with a couple of noted speedsters in it. Being set for rich $200,000 Highway so should be winning this. MOSSMAN GORGE just keeps raising the bar with his wins. Likes to get out and lead and will do so here off this great draw. Last start led and defied a Highway field which was strong. Big chance if left alone in front. DON’T GIVE A DAMN had enormous wraps on him when he raced first time in the bush and easily won his maiden. This is many lengths harder but he clearly has wheels. Place.

Race 4 – 3YO Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) 2:00pm

THE MISSION is a bona fide Gr 1 winner but he’s first up here. Looked awesome winning recent trial just racing away against smart horses. His Gr 1 win was over a mile so to resume here might prove a master stroke. TRAPEZE ARTIST recently won a star-studded trial also and he’s 2nd up here. Is a Gr 3 winner and distance appears perfect at this stage. ADDICTIVE NATURE is the interesting runner. He will set the pace and may set it on his own like he did similar grade last start. Distance then is only query. Chance.

Race 6 - SHERACO STAKES (1200m) 3:10PM

Terrific bunch of females. OMEI SWORD was disappointing when resuming but had trialed well and has a boom as big and loud as a shotgun blast. Is worth another chance. GHISONI, however, looked awesome in recent trial. She has long been considered a farling of Godolphin and despite being first up here in a crack field, she appeals. Can sit in about 4th sopot from this alley and just go bang. Last campaign, did win first up also.

August 26

Race 2 - 12:45PM PRO IT HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

AWOKE is a promising filly and her two runs this time up have been outstanding. Big weight though. ELOUERA has improved so much in the past two months. Her finishing burst to win what was a slightly better race last start in town was most impressive. She repeats that, she wins again. CHATUCHAK is in form and can place.

Race 4 - 1:55PM PACIFIC BOATING HANDICAP (2000 METRES)

VAUCLUSE BAY had to trial during the week, forced to do so by stewards after being fav and getting well beaten last start. He went well in the trial. But NOT A GYPSY looks the play. His run to get 2nd in a fast run race when 2nd up last start was a bottler. Should be super fit now, and the horse that beat him last start, is scratched. CHATELARD is unbeaten in 3 starts and keeps jumping the bar. Chance.

Race 7 - 3:45PM $150,000 SAN DOMENICO STAKES (1100 METRES)

They will fly in this. The big question is will CONDOR HEROES push forward early and lead? He has the speed to do so and can win racing that way. But he also can settle and charge home. Either way, his 2 trials this time up say he's back better than ever. PARIAH and JORDA are both class acts and their prior form along with their recent trials, make them big dangers too.

August 12

Race 1 - 11:55AM TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

We are looking at new ground here and potentially a new star. We've not seen a horse debut in a Highway yet, but we have one here in ANOTHER SIN. He's a 3YO. He has had just one trial and he jumped on the bunny and won it with his head on his chest. The second horse home in that trial, came out and won impressively, as did the 3rd horse home in the trial. And Another Sin beat them pointlessly. He might be red hot. LIFESAVER is unbeaten in two starts and the wins have stamped him as very smart too. He'll keep the new boy honest.

Race 7 - 3:35PM CANTERBURY HURLSTONE PARK RSL CLUB SPRING PREVIEW (1400 METRES)

I was completely convinced that ETYMOLOGY is a top flight horse after watching his barrier trial run during the week. He's very strong late and has enough pace to be handy. Is Gr 1 placed and I think he is set for a big campaign starting here. WASHINGTON HEIGHTS is suited this grade and trip. He's also in great form while TOM MELBOURNE has been a massive disappointment past 6 starts. But new trainer here and can place.

Race 8 - 4:15PM CLUBSNSW HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

Tough race but the first 3 home in that mares BM 73 two weeks back should fight this out too. They were SUSPENDERS, FAITH'S ENCORS and SLUMBER PARTY. There was about 1kg between the three of them and about a length between them at the end. Slumber Party meets them both much better at the weights this time and will be in the lead from the get go. Looks tough to run down.

July 29

Race 3 - 12:50PM SYDNEY SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE PLATE (1400 METRES)

Not all that sure why Hugh Bowman moved off COSMIC ENGINE in this to ride REACH FOR HEAVEN. On form, the Kris Lees filly can't beat Cosmic Engine who looks to my eye very well off at the weights. He should park up 4th or 5th throughout then unleash down the centre of the track. The pace will be on all the way with ARBEITSAM in front for a good portion of the race.

Race 7 - 3:20PM $150,000 WINTER CHALLENGE (1500 METRES)

This is the big race of the day. And I like the big horse, the toppie GOLD SYMPHONY. This time Hughie got it right I think as he will settle this bloke back off a hectic pace and from this great draw he will be there to win at the 200m. SHIRAZ came with a strong run last start to just miss indicating this trip may suit and SLIGHTLY SWEET beat most of these at big odds last start. If she repeats she goes very close again.

Race 9 - 4:40PM NSW RACEHORSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION TROPHY (1500 METRES)

Again weights and measures are the prevailing rule here meaning I like the Godolphin galloper PHILOSOPHY. Is drawn to get the best run of the race and with weights in her favour this time, and now 3rd up, she looks primed to out sprint them. REIBY RAMPART is a similar horse with similar talent and has similar weight so has to be included while AWOKE was very impressive last start when winning easier race.

What Bets To Place at Rosehill Races

There are a number of ways to bet on horse racing this weekend from a standard win or place bet to quadrellas and multibets.

SINGLE: The most common bet. The single bet involves betting on your selection to win, place, or both (each-way). If betting each-way (see our guide for what an each-way bet is), the stake is doubled as you are betting on your selection to win, and also to place.

QUINELLA: A Quinella bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least three or more runners. To win a Quinella, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in any order

EXACTA: An exacta is exactly the same as a quinella. However, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in the correct order

TRIFECTA: A Trifecta bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a Trifecta, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in a given race.

FIRST4: A First4 bet is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a First4, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placegetters in a given race.

MYSTERY BET: A Mystery Bet takes the guess work out of picking a Trifecta and is generated by the betting agency’s computer. The computer system will randomly select three runners and if they fill the placings you win the Trifecta.

QUADDIE: A Quaddie bet, or Quadrella bet as it is fully known, is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race meetings. A quaddie is betting on the winners of four nominated races, which are typically the last four races of any meeting, and is a very popular bet.

MULTIBET: Multibets offer a great way to secure big winning returns on your bets as you combine various bets into one, and are proving to be an extremely popular way to bet. A multibet combines any number of bets from two to 25 into one single bet and dramatically increases the odds.

PATENT BET: A Patent bet is similar to a three-leg multibet but is made up of seven separate bets: three singles, three doubles and a trio. Where a multibet requires all selections to win for a return, a patent bet will yield a return from just one winner.

ALL-IN BETTING: All-In betting involves a bookmaker offering fixed odds on selected feature races prior to the declaration of the final field. All-In betting on the Melbourne Cup, for example, is available for the better part of 12 months leading into the event. The risk with All-In Betting is that you will not receive your stake back if your horse is scratched.
