Rosehill Tips - March 31

SPIN is a maiden yet has to carry top weight here, but he deserves it. Both runs this time up have been in stakes races and he's placed twice. Gives every indication this trip will suit. Big show.

All eyes will be on Gailo Chop who should lead and who should take beating. But he's never won at this trip which is why I like ALMANDIN. He's a star stayer, loves this journey and I think he runs Gailo Chop down over the final 200m. Single Gaze plods on well for 3rd.

Kiwi visitors tend to do very well here and this filly DANZDANZDANCE might be very special. She took on the boys in trhe strong NZ Derby last start and ran third. Back to own sex here and first up in Australia - looks very well placed to my eye. TORVILL and BRING ME ROSES battle out the minors.

March 24

Race 4 - 2:05PM RANVET STAKES (2000 METRES)

So much potential pace here. Gailo Chop is in career best form and will drive forward, as will Classic Uniform and potentially The Taj Mahal. He's the interesting runner. If he sits back he can win this but he led last start. If that happens here they may burn each other out. That brings SINGLE GAZE into the mix. She has drawn the fence and as such will sit up 4th smoking her pipe, biding her time behind a hectic pace. She is very fit and has two Group 1 placings under her belt this campaign alone. Respect her.

I'm on this provincial galloper FURORE. I think he has star written all over him and he is fearless. He runs time irrespective of his rivals and just seems to be able to explode away when he wants to. Yes, coming from restricted bush and provincial grade to Group 1 level here is a worry, but he has drawn to receive a great run with cover and has finishing power. Ace High for 2nd spot.

I backed WRITTEN BY after he won the Blue Diamond and he is the absolute card-carrying perfect horse to back in the Slipper. Has pace, can sit behind speed, can cover ground if needs be, is unbeaten, is a Group 1 winner already, has won this track and is by a sire who has already produced a Slipper winner. Can't wait to collect. I like Seabrook for 2nd. She gets clear air in straight she can run home hard and either Ef Troop or Sunlight to fight out 3rd as they will be on pace all way and can run a strong 1200m. Great race.

March 17

It's bone and muscle time. Tulloch Lodge's front-runner STAMPEDE should find that role on his ear and on his own. With two starts under his belt, he's ready to roll along at a fierce pace and with all these being backmarkers, he appeals the most. Libran can chase him home in 2nd.

Terrific field, but because I think WRITTEN BY can win the Golden Slipper at this track and over this trip next week, surely he rates the highest here in this. Roosevelt was impressive and strong on debut and can run home for 2nd, but I think Written By wins in a hand canter.

I like EGG TART in what is an extremely open race. She was held up and momentum halted when resuming last start, eventually winding up 4th. That's often the curse of backmarkers and she will have to weave through traffic here too. But the manner in which she came at them late was breathtaking last start. At huge odds I'm on Aide Memoire to run 2nd. Should nearly have won the race Dixie Blossoms scored in last start. Was checked at crucial stage. Raiment off the inside draw can hang tough for 3rd. Great race.

February 24

When we see quality like SHOW A STAR racing each week through the grades, you need to get on. He looks deliciously placed here because he is on a path to Black Type. Last 2 starts have been wins of note. Hat trick time here.

This may be one of the best Silver Slippers we've seen. We really get to see the Magic Millions winner SUNLIGHT tested here with GONGS being present. ESTIJAAB is very fast and will most likely lead, but the other pair are a class above her. I see Sunlight hitting the lead at the leger but Gongs coming too hard late and claim her on the wire. Great, fascinating and Golden Slipper altering race coming up. Seven starters and 6 are last start winners.

Terrific race with speed on in earnest early, and some powerful finishers late. I like ACQUME. That run last start when flashing home for 2nd this grade suggested she is back better than ever. TEASPOON resumes and can run the quinella.

February 3

Race 1 - 12:45PM $100K BM 78 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

Good race. FROM WITHIN is racing in great touch and will be very hard to hold out but I do think the weight difference between her and the bottom horse TIARA STAR might be a few kilos too much. Tiara Star is pretty handy and I think well up to winning on a Saturday. Good first up run and is in a great gate. Big show.

Race 3 - 2:00PM $150K WIDDEN STAKES 2YO Fillies (1100 METRES)

We have a conundrum here. I have no doubt SECRET LADY is the best horse but she went to Qld for the Magic Millions where she was badly hampered during the run and did great to finish 5th. Then she went to Melbourne for Blue Diamond Preview and met with both when training so didn’t start. Now back up here. Still a baby and that will best her resolve so I'm on last start winner INTO THE ABYSS. She camped on pace and was toying with rivals late to win on debut. That was midweek level but she looks very handy.

Race 4 - 2:35PM $100K Benchmark 90 HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

Man does this look a great race for the locally trained LIAPARI. Super fit now that he’s had 3 runs and loves this grade. Will be near speed all way and with weight relief does look perfectly placed.

What Bets To Place at Rosehill Races

There are a number of ways to bet on horse racing this weekend from a standard win or place bet to quadrellas and multibets.

SINGLE: The most common bet. The single bet involves betting on your selection to win, place, or both (each-way). If betting each-way (see our guide for what an each-way bet is), the stake is doubled as you are betting on your selection to win, and also to place.

QUINELLA: A Quinella bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least three or more runners. To win a Quinella, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in any order

EXACTA: An exacta is exactly the same as a quinella. However, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in the correct order

TRIFECTA: A Trifecta bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a Trifecta, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in a given race.

FIRST4: A First4 bet is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a First4, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placegetters in a given race.

MYSTERY BET: A Mystery Bet takes the guess work out of picking a Trifecta and is generated by the betting agency’s computer. The computer system will randomly select three runners and if they fill the placings you win the Trifecta.

QUADDIE: A Quaddie bet, or Quadrella bet as it is fully known, is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race meetings. A quaddie is betting on the winners of four nominated races, which are typically the last four races of any meeting, and is a very popular bet.

MULTIBET: Multibets offer a great way to secure big winning returns on your bets as you combine various bets into one, and are proving to be an extremely popular way to bet. A multibet combines any number of bets from two to 25 into one single bet and dramatically increases the odds.

PATENT BET: A Patent bet is similar to a three-leg multibet but is made up of seven separate bets: three singles, three doubles and a trio. Where a multibet requires all selections to win for a return, a patent bet will yield a return from just one winner.

ALL-IN BETTING: All-In betting involves a bookmaker offering fixed odds on selected feature races prior to the declaration of the final field. All-In betting on the Melbourne Cup, for example, is available for the better part of 12 months leading into the event. The risk with All-In Betting is that you will not receive your stake back if your horse is scratched.

Rosehill Race Track Description

Rosehill Racecourse consists of four long sweeping turns and horses that have drawn an inside gate are advantaged.

It is difficult to lead all the way when the rail is in the true position, but when the rail is out 4 metres or more, all runners are provided an even opportunity.
