Australian PGA Championship Tips - Cameron Smith to upstage Adam Scott at Royal Pines

  • Adam Scott heads the field at Royal Pines
  • 3 best bets to back again him
Cameron Smith

Adam Scott heads into the Australian PGA Championship as a firm favourite to win at Royal Pines, but William Hill are taking him on in their best bets for the tournament.

RACV Royal Pines on the Gold Coast will host the Australian PGA Championship for the 4th consecutive year.

Adam Scott and Greg Chalmers were the winners in 2013 and 2014 respectively but last year it was little known Nathan Holman won in a playoff to earn himself a European Tour card.

Last week's Australian pairing at the World Cup Of Golf are in action again with Scott and Marc Leishman among the favourites.

They are far from at the top of their game and it leaves the door open for someone else to steal the glory. That someone is Cameron Smith.

Despite opening with a 74 at the Australian Open he went 68, 68 and 66 to force his way into a playoff before losing out to Jordan Spieth. He also finished 5th here last year and is very familiar with the course.

Royal Pines is a very long course by Australian standards coming in at 7,378 yards. It has two par 3s that play over 200 yards from the championship tees and a monster 681-yard par 5.

It doesn’t end there either. You want to make sure that your iron shots don’t roll off the green as there is virtually no fringe. The greens are surround by thick rough and pose very tricky chip shots. Just to get a gauge on the difficulty, the winner last year shot even. They won’t be shooting low and those who scramble best will be rewarded.

As a result there is also a heap of value with Matthew Goggin and James Nitties outside hopes.

Recommended Bets:
Cameron Smith ($17 William Hill)
James Nitties ($101 William Hill)
Matthew Goggin ($251 William Hill)
