Race 2 (6:36pm local/9:36pm AEDT) – MS PACE – 2100m
There looks to be limited chances in this race and I think the market has got this horribly wrong. Phar Lun and Soho Lexington are stablemates and the market has them at $1.80 against $7. The latter is the better horse for mine and trainer Kristian Hawkins is driving Soho Lexington.
While Phar Lun is a last-start winner, he won a very weak R0-R1 in 2:01.8, with a final half of 59.6 seconds.
The top two chances in this race appear to be Ignite The Passion and Soho Lexington.
There is some concern that Soho Lexington is first up but he was fifth behind The Spinster five starts back and she would demolish this field.
Rated Price: $2.60
Race 3 (7:11pm local/10:11pm AEDT) – WESTBRED MARES MS PACE – 1609m
Alkiras Desire is a very impressive mare that could be hard to beat here but Alfa Queen should ensure she is made to earn it in order to be victorious. Alfa Queen has plenty of talent and looks an improver here over the mile from barrier five.
There could be plenty of early speed with those two horses mentioned above and Kissmecougar is a run-on horse that looks over the odds, especially for the place.
She races well at Bunbury and should be running home gamely once again at $51 and $8.
Looking through her formline, she has run well against Sheez Edgy who was runner up in town on Friday night and was pretty good in an M2 race against Bettor Be Supreme and Jungle Jewel who are top metropolitan mares.
I would have preferred the 2100m for Kissmecougar but she has only raced over the sprint-trip twice so happy backing her at massive odds.
Rated Price: $15
Race 6 (8:45pm local/11:45pm AEDT) – MS PACE – 1609m
The fast-class race tonight should be run at a strong clip and there is heaps of gate speed on the front line.
Mexicano will be looking for a trail and the ideal horse to follow would be Major Stare from barrier three.
Six starts ago Mexicano began from this barrier, in this company, over this distance when running third to Galactic Star in 1:54.3. The runner up was Machrihanish who has franked the form by winning at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
He didn’t have much clear running at Northam last start so ignore that run of Mexicano’s and look at his second-placing behind Padabing Stride two starts ago.
Back him each-way at $11 and $2.75 and he shouldn’t be too far away as long as All The Torque doesn’t cross him early.
Rated Price: $5
Race 7 (9:20pm local/12:20am AEDT) – MS PACE – 2100m
Burning Shadows looks a great place chance in this event as he should take the trail behind Touch Of Success who will be very hard to beat.
I’ll suggest two bets in the race as I’m not confident enough that Burning Shadows can run down Touch Of Success who has won by comfortable margins at two of his past three.
Considering that horse should win and Burning Shadows should be a strong chance of running second, I’ll suggest an Exacta bet.
In addition, a place bet on Burning Shadows at the $2 looks great as he is probably a $1.40 chance to run a place in this company.
Race 8 (9:45pm local/12:45am AEDT) – GRADUATION MS PACE – 1609m
Not too many winning hopes in this race and I expect either Just A Glance or Hoiho to prove too strong.
Based on the current odds of $5.50 versus $1.45, it’s an easy decision to side with Just A Glance.
She doesn’t have a lot of gate speed which is some concern but she finished really well behind Im The Best last start and that form is stronger than most of these.
Just A Glance enjoyed a soft pegs run which makes this a new challenge tonight as she may not be able to land the pegs unless she shows more gate speed, but one thing in her favour is that Hoiho generally races roughly and looks prone to breaking.
Rated Price: $3.50
