Prediction

Preview and Tips

After being tasked with an extremely tough opening draw over the first month of the season, Canberra have begun to hit their stride, with three straight wins elevating them to the cusp of the top four as we head into what should be a thrilling ANZAC weekend of rugby league.

Since a one-point defeat to the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium a month ago, the Raiders have been clinical against sides outside the top eight, easily accounting for the Eels, Titans and Warriors.

Canberra is looking every bit of a top four side this season and I’ve got no doubt they will be pushing for at least the preliminary finals again if they can keep their best side on the paddock.

Joey Leilua and Jordan Rapana have formed the most lethal edge partnership in the competition, and Manly will be hard-pressed to stop the dynamic duo on Friday night.

The Sea Eagles have lost their momentum following a superb three-week period which included wins over the Cowboys, Bulldogs and Roosters.

Manly have lost their last two matches at home - conceding 30+ points in both - and have slipped outside the top eight as a result.

All of a sudden they face a daunting trip to GIO Stadium and the prospect of losing three matches on the bounce. Trent Barrett could be under pressure again if they suffer another heavy defeat.

But you can’t deny the Sea Eagles aren’t creating chances - they lead the competition for most line breaks with 34, so if they can take advantage of the space, points should come.

Manly also have a great recent record in the nation’s capital, but I just can’t go past the Raiders here. It will probably be a high-scoring game considering both these sides are capable of splitting the line, but at home I think Canberra will have too much firepower.

Stats

  • Canberra won three of their last four meetings
