Cronulla Sharks vs Canterbury Bulldogs NRL Tips, Predictions and Match Preview- Sharks to defy injury toll and win

Steve Bennett 16 May 2018
  • Sharks can overcome injury toll
  • Bulldogs have the wood on the Sharks
  • Sharks won their only clash last year
Sharks play host to the Bulldogs this weekend

The Sharks return home winners over the Raiders while the Bulldogs come off a victory over the Eels and both sides will be looking for back-to-back wins here.

Sharks vs Bulldogs kicks off at 4:10pm AEST on Sunday at Southern Cross Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.

Prediction

Match Preview

The Sharks have recorded six wins this season and currently sit eighth on the ladder, but their points differential remains a minus at negative 13. This come back to haunt them at the business end of the year so it stands to reason they will be out to win by as many points as possible to put themselves into a positive situation.

The Bulldogs bounced back well last week to record their first win in a month. With salary cap dramas to deal with, the 20-12 victory over the Eels was welcomed by players and fans alike. A reduction in their error rate contributed largely to the win.

The Sharks were up against it in the national capital where several key players were missing including captain Paul Gallen, fullback Josh Dugan and back-rowers Luke Lewis and Wade Graham. But they stuck to their guns and played the full 80 mins and came home too strong for the Raiders.

Sharks front rower Andrew Fifita is in great form of late and his match-up against Aaron Woods and David Klemmer will be a battle not to miss.

The battle in the halves could decide the game with Chad Townsend and Matt Moylan locking horns with Keiran Foran and Matt Frawley. A first-class kicking game could be all the difference here.

There is never much between these sides when they do clash and last year’s only meeting supports that where the Sharks got away with a 9-8 victory in round 12.

Despite their large injury toll, I believe the Sharks will relish the home ground advantage and take the points here.

Match Odds

Sharks - $1.50

Bulldogs - $2.60
