Match Preview

Can the Titans end a five-game losing streak or will the Knights find the form that beat the Sea Eagles away from home again and force their way back into the top eight?

Both sides can claim injuries to key players have disrupted their game plans this season, however the Titans have a lot to prove to their home crowd this weekend.

The down side this week was the news that back-rower Kevin Proctor will be missing for this week’s game due to a groin injury. The good news for the Titans is the injury isn’t too serious and he may only miss one or two games.

Even better news for the Gold Coast side was the re-signing of front-rower Jarrod Wallace for a further four seasons. He has been down on form this season and with the pressures of his playing future now settled he may be more focussed on getting his career back on track.

Since getting away with a win over the trouble-stricken Sea Eagles, the Knights have been out-of-sorts as they struggle to keep up without their halfback Mitchell Pearce at the helm. Comprehensive losses to the Rabbitohs and last week at home to the injury-stricken Panthers has coach Nathan Brown scratching his head as he looks for answers.

Whilst the Knights need a win here to keep in touch with the top eight, the Titans are basically staring their season in the face and another loss could make it all but impossible to be playing finals football this season.

Titans’ halfback Ash Taylor can control this game in the middle given enough possession and room to move. His halves partner AJ Brimson must continue to support Taylor if they are to dominate the centre. Jarrod Wallace needs to lead by example and encourage the likes of Jai Arrow to look for gaps around the edge of the ruck.

Now that the QLD side have said goodbye to Cameron Smith, they are in dire need of a goalkicker. This should spark Knights fullback Kayln Ponga into overdrive for a push towards making his Origin debut this year. Brock Lamb and Connor Watson will have to be at their very best to contain Brimson and Taylor.

While the Knights have already tasted victory on the road, they will be facing a fired-up Titans side who will be without Bryce Cartwright who has felt the brunt of coach Brennan and has been dropped to the reserves bench. Nathan Peats also makes his return from a rib injury.

With their season on the line, we see the Titans lifting enough in front of their home crowd to record their first win in six weeks.

Match Odds

Titans - $2.02

Knights - $1.80
