After a fortnight-long split round, normality is restored in the Hyundai A-League as Round 24 action gets underway this Friday night.
Western Sydney Wanderers play host to Melbourne City in the first game with both teams coming into this clash on the back of big wins last week. The Wanderers took one step closer to sealing a finals spot with a dominant 3-0 win over the Wellington Phoenix, while City were on fire against the Newcastle Jets, firing four goals past the hapless Hunter outfit.
Adelaide United will look to build on their controversial win over Brisbane Roar on Sunday when they travel to Gosford to face the Central Coast Mariners. A dubious penalty to Sergio Cirio in the 98th minute handed Adelaide just their fourth win of the season, and if they can topple the Mariners on Saturday, they will leapfrog them on the ladder.
The second game on Saturday sees Brisbane Roar square off against Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium. Brisbane were fuming after falling late to Adelaide and are clinging on to a top four spot as a result, while Victory look certain to finish the regular season in second spot after a last-start 4-1 win over Perth.
Two teams with their season on the line clash on Sunday when the Wellington Phoenix entertain the Newcastle Jets. It’s a must-win for both sides to have any chance of catching the Wanderers.
Round 24 action finishes in Perth on Sunday night with Glory taking on competition leaders Sydney FC. The Sky Blues can potentially wrap up the Premier’s Plate if they win and Victory lose to Brisbane, while Glory will be looking to become just the second team to beat Sydney in the A-League this season.
