Central Coast Mariners v Melbourne City Preview and Tips

Central Coast Mariners have breathed life into their hopes of making the A-League finals over the last month with just one defeat in their last five games, but the visit of Melbourne City poses a crucial stage in their season.

City themselves are struggling to produce consistent performances and last week's defeat to Sydney FC leaves them looking over their shoulders in the race to secure a home Elimination Final courtesy of a top four finish.

It was a point from the F3 Derby against Newcastle Jets last weekend, and the Mariners are five points adrift of Western Sydney Wanders who occupy sixth place and the last of the finals berths.

The question is whether they can continue their run of form on Sunday and reduce that gap to just two points.

City won 2-1 when the sides last met in Melbourne in Round 16, but Mariners collected a point courtesy of an entertaining 2-2 in Gosford in the other meeting on New Year's Eve.

It could well be another game full of goals and a repeat of the draw at Central Coast Stadium looks the value.

Central Coast Mariners v Melbourne City Stats

  • Melbourne City have lost on six of their last nine visits to Gosford
  • City have won four and drawn one of the last five head-to-heads
  • Central Coast Mariners can move to within two points

Central Coast Mariners v Melbourne City Team News
