Prediction

Match Preview

Melbourne Victory have faltered over the last month or so with just one win in their last five games, but will attempt to but that right when they get Round 27 underway against Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park

It has been known for some time that they would finish second on the ladder behind Premiers Plate winners Sydney FC, but Victory's form would be of a concern to coach Kevin Muscat heading into the finals.

Victory have won only once since Sydney FC sapped their morale in the Big Blue to all but end the race for the minor premiership, and Melbourne have picked up just a solitary point from the last three games courtesy of a 0-0 with Western Sydney Wanderers last week.

Victory have also failed to score in those three games, but can they put things right on Friday night and head into the finals series on the back of a much-needed victory?

The Mariners themselves have plenty to play for despite being out of the finals picture. That is because they sit just a point clear of bottom two Adelaide United and Newcastle Jets and could yet end up with the wooden spoon.

They moved off bottom spot with a crucial win over rivals the Jets in a derby last weekend and will now bid to extended Victory's winless streak.

The bad news for Central Coast fans is the club's record against Victory, who have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two sides with the other game a draw.

Stats

  • Melbourne Victory have won nine of the last 10 meetings

Team News
