Prediction

Preview and Tips

Sydney FC's 1-0 win over Central Coast Mariners on Friday left Melbourne Victory 14 points behind in second place with only five games remaining and Kevin Muscat's men know a win is needed against Perth Glory to keep the race for the Premiers Plate alive temporarily at least.

In all realism, success against Perth will only delay the Sky Blues getting their hands on silverware for a further two weeks - both sides enjoy a weekend off next week - with a dramatic turnaround in the race for the minor premiership extremely unlikely.

But it won't stop Victory from chasing the three points on Saturday night as they look to keep the chasing pack at bay in the race for second spot on the A-League ladder.

Glory sit in fifth place but can jump up to third position with a win in Melbourne, or fourth if they pick up a point. Kenny Lowe's side look nailed on for a finals berth, but a positive result against Victory will all but seal it anyway.

Perth are certainly a team in form with just one defeat in their last 11 games and the goal-happy side come into the game boasting an enviable record against Melbourne Victory having not tasted defeat in the last eight meetings.

That run includes a 2-1 win for Glory in Perth and a 1-1 stalemate in Melbourne in the previous two encounters this season. Will they claim the honours for the campaign by avoiding defeat on Saturday.

Stats

  • Perth Glory are undefeated in the last eight against Melbourne Victory
  • Glory have lost just one of their last 11 A-League games
  • Perth have scored at least two goals in the last five matches

Team News

Melbourne Victory are boosted by the return of Alan Baro after he was forced to sit out last week's defeat to Sydney FC because of illness. George Howard is also added to the squad.

Perth Glory are still without Alex Grant, Shane Lowry, Brandon Wilson and Mitch Oxborrow, but Nebo Marinkovic returns from injury and Kosta Petratos in recalled.
