World Cup Group B Preview and Predictions - Essential guide to Group B

  • Spain and Portugal headline Group B
  • The European pair are heavy favourites to progress to the knockout stages
  • They are joined by Morocco and Iran
Portugal's forward Cristiano Ronaldo

Reigning European champions Portugal and 2010 World Cup champions Spain headline Group B at the 2018 World Cup, joined by African neighbours Morocco and Asian powerhouse Iran.

Bitter rivals Portugal and Spain are seemingly battling for top spot in an intriguing Group B in Russia for the upcoming 2018 World Cup, while the likes of Morocco and Iran will be attempting to overthrow one of the European juggernauts and sneak into a top two qualifying spot.

With Cristiano Ronaldo in their ranks and on the back of defeating France to secure the Euro 2016 silverware, Portugal will fancy their chances of going all the way in Russia, but Spain have a point to prove after exiting meekly from the group stages at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil four years ago.

Iran created a new record for most consecutive games keeping a clean sheet (12) as they became the first team from Asia to qualify, while Morocco are returning to the world stage for the first time since 1998.

Bookmakers have Portugal and Spain as the overwhelming favourites to emerge out of Group B, with Morocco and Iran given next to no hope of upsetting the two European giants.

Group B Odds

Winner: Spain $1.50, Portugal $3.00, Morocco $17, Iran $21
To qualify: Spain $1.07, Portugal $1.17, Morocco $4.50, Iran $7.00
