World Cup Group D Preview and Predictions - Essential Guide to Group D

  • Argentina lead what could turn into an unpredictable Group D at the 2018 World Cup
  • Croatia, Iceland and Nigeria also feature
Argentina's Lionel Messi

Argentina and Nigeria will once again clash at a World Cup, while Croatia and Iceland are also present in what is shaping as an unpredictable Group D in Russia.

In one of the most unbelievable stats in World Cup history, Argentina and Nigeria will face off for the fifth time in just the African nation’s sixth appearance in the competition.

Nigeria also have a daunting record against the South American powerhouses, losing all four previous World Cup meetings in 1994, 2002, 2010 and 2014.

Argentina, who are led by Lionel Messi, struggled significantly in qualifying and only wrapped up their ticket to Russia in their final two games - and the jury is out over how they will perform in Russia, despite the incredible depth of their squad in the attacking third.

Croatia, who came third at France 98, are more than capable of winning all three of their group fixtures, while Iceland have their entire nation behind them as they attempt to replicate their stunning performances at Euro 2016 and escape from a group filled with more fancied teams.

Argentina are favourites to top the group, closely followed by Croatia, but you can get tremendous value on Nigeria and Iceland, both of whom are taking strong squads to Russia and could easily spring a couple of upsets.
