AFL State Of Origin Betting Tips

Adam Cusworth:

AFL State of Origin is back as Victoria take on the All Stars at Marvel Stadium on Friday. Read on for our preview of the game.

The AFL State of Origin take place on Friday February 28 for the first time since 2008 as the competition’s best players take on one another as part of the contribution to the national bushfire crisis.

The Marvel Stadium encounter gets underway at 7:50pm EDT.

Match Preview

The big names step out for both sides and the likes of Dustin Martin, Marcus Bontempelli and Patrick Dangerfield will be donning the Big V, while the All-Stars line-up boast the the 2019 Brownlow Medalist, Nathan Fyfe, as well as Brodie Grundy and Patrick Cripps.

With a lack of prior history between the two sides, it is hard to get a gauge as to which side has the stronger line up. The Vics have two of the last four Brownlow Medal winners in Martin and Dangerfield and last year’s Coleman Medal winner in Jeremy Cameron.

On paper, they look to have the superior tall forwards in Cameron and Tom Lynch, but the All-Stars have a host of exciting smaller players inside forward 50m that could do some damage in Michael Walters, Charlie Cameron and Luke Breust.

Brodie Grundy steps out for the All-Stars and will look to get on top in the ruck, while Jack Riewoldt and Tom Hawkins loom as focal points. In the coaches box, it is Damien Hardwick for Victoria, while John Longmire leads the All-Stars.

The State of Origin concept has basically been on the sidelines since 1999 with a one off game held in 2008 to help celebrate 150 years of Australian rules Football. On that occasion, Victoria defeated the ‘Dream Team’ by three goals in the AFL Hall of Fame Tribute Match.

Interstate footy stretches back to the 1800s and was formally known as ‘State of Origin’ from 1977-1999. Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia were the dominant teams. The All Stars are made up of players from all of the states and territories in Australia, except Victoria, who remain as a standalone team.
