Suns vs Blues Preview

The Gold Coast Suns take on Carlton in AFL Round 23 in a game that will shape spots in the top eight. The Suns are out of the finals race in 15th position with nine wins but the Blues have come from the clouds and are 5th at the conclusion of Round 22.

Michael Voss’ side have now won eight on the trot and come off a four point win in thrilling circumstances against Melbourne last weekend. That was their third win against top four opponents in the current streak.

The Blues have been the competition’s best offensive and defensive side in that period and were able to beat the Demons without a number of key players. Patrick Cripps led from the front, while Nic Newman and George Hewitt both had 33 disposals.

Gold Coast will need to find more of the footy than what they did against Sydney and will be looking for big games from Sam Flanders, Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell. If that trio can fire they are not without a chance, given they have won their past two at home against top eight sides.

But with the competition’s leading goal kicker, Charlie Curnow, looming up forward, we can expect Carlton to come home with a win.
