Richmond vs St Kilda Preview and Prediction
The Tigers lost to Brisbane last week for the first time in 11 years which sees them match up in a semi-final against the Saints, who came away with a historic narrow victory against the Bulldogs.
Richmond wasn’t able to exploit the wings with their fast-free lowing manner, particularly in the second half, and without Tom Lynch up forward they struggled to consistently maintain a scoring presence.
Dion Prestia was superb in his first match back from injury, collecting 20 disposals, two clearances and two score involvements.
With Lynch back into the line-up, you can expect the Tigers to isolate the middle of the ground to create leading lanes for the tall forward. They also will be more deliberate with their delivery inside 50, after taking five marks inside 50 against the Lions.
Meanwhile, St Kilda advanced to the semi-final with a thoroughly professional performance despite a late scare.
The Saints controlled the ariel game taking 21 contested marks for the match, 12 more than their season average.
Paddy Ryder was the best on the ground against the Bulldogs, finishing the match with 20 hit-outs, seven score involvements, three contested marks and two goals.
In their triumph over the Tigers earlier in the season, the Saints were mature with their size advantage. However, they don’t have that luxury this time. So, they will try and control possession with short kicks to keep the game on their terms against a ferocious Tigers outfit.
I believe the Tigers, considering St Kilda’s omissions, should win this match comfortably.
Richmond vs St Kilda Team News
Richmond will have tall forward, Tom Lynch, for the crucial clash against the Saints. The Tigers are also weighing up ruck support for Toby Nankervis.
St Kilda will have to make multiple changes with Ben Long, Paddy Ryder and Jake Carlisle all unavailable for selection. Josh Battle, Dylan Roberton, Shane Savage and Nicholas Hind all in contention.
The two sides last met in Round 4 which saw St Kilda defeat the Tigers by 26 points.
