The French Open second round match between Borna Coric and Pedro Cachin features as Bettingpro.com.au’s best bet for Thursday June 1.
Bet Of The Day June 1 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.
Key Points
- Coric has won eight of his last 10 matches
- Cachin has won a set in three of his last four defeats
- Coric has dropped a set in five of his last seven Grand Slam wins
- Coric dropped a set in R1 vs Coria
- Cachin beat Thiem in five sets in R1
- Cachin has played four or five sets in four of his last five Grand Slam matches
We’re off to the French Open for today’s best bet as Borna Coric and Pedro Cachin square off for a spot in the third round.
Coric is the No. 16 seed and should advance, but the Croatian isn’t exactly known for crushing victories and can tend to find himself in many lengthy battles.
For this reason, we’re going to back Coric to win but for Cachin to win at least one set.
Coric was the massive favourite in his opening round against another Argentine in Federico Coria – a player that was on a five-match losing run and hadn’t played since retiring in Banja Luka in April.
Coric needed four sets to make it past Coria and wasn’t very convincing. Now, he’s got a similar sort of matchup against an Argentine he should beat.
Cachin has established himself as a top 100 player over the last 12 months or so and progressed to the second round of Roland Garros for the second straight year courtesy of a five-set win over former runner-up Dominic Thiem.
Granted, Thiem isn’t the player he used to be, but it’s still a confidence-boosting victory for Cachin – especially after the Argentine also put away Francis Tiafoe and Francisco Cerundolo to make the R16 in Madrid.
Playing that sort of tennis, there’s no reason why Cachin can’t trouble Coric at stages throughout this match and snatch a set.
Coric has dropped a set in five of his last seven Grand Slam wins, so the Croatian has a tendency to drop his level throughout the course of a five-set battle.
But, overall, Coric should have too much class and consistency – he’s won eight of his last 10 matches, so a four or five-set triumph looks the best bet here.
