We’re off to the Europa League for today’s best bet as West Ham look to get their campaign off to a winning start against Serbian minnows Backa Topola.
West Ham won the Conference League trophy last season to qualify for the Europa League and have now won 14 of their last 15 matches in Europe – and we’re backing them to prevail comfortably at home in London here.
It’s been an excellent start to the season for the Hammers, with David Moyes’ side losing just one of their five games – and that was against treble-winners Man City.
West Ham were leading City 1-0 at half-time on the weekend before the champions fought back. Before that clash, West Ham conquered the likes of Brighton and Chelsea by 3-1 scores.
If the Hammers can beat teams like that by decent margins, then they should be able to ease past their Serbian opponents at the London Stadium.
Backa Topola were only promoted to the top flight of Serbian football in 2018/19 and have quickly risen through the ranks, but this is a massive step up in class from their normal domestic campaign.
Backa Topola actually qualified for the Champions League this season, but they were crushed 7-1 on aggregate against Braga in the qualifying stages.
West Ham are a stronger side than Braga, so a similar result is expected in their two group games. Braga beat the Serbian side 3-0 at home and 4-1 on the road.
If the Hammers maintain their current form, they should be winning this with plenty of room to be spare.
