Andrew Hendrie:
Bet Of The Day June 27

The Wimbledon first round match between Andy Murray and James Duckworth features as Bettingpro.com.au’s best bet for Monday June 27.

Bet Of The Day June 27 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.

Key Points

  • Duckworth hasn’t won a tour-level match since November 2021
  • Duckworth has lost his last 10 straight main draw matches
  • Murray beat Duckworth in their two previous meetings
  • Murray has won seven of his last nine matches on grass
  • Murray defeated Tsitsipas & Kyrgios in straight sets in his last grass event

We’re off to Wimbledon for today’s best bet as two-time former champion Andy Murray opens his campaign against the out-of-form James Duckworth.

It always pains us to go against an Aussie player, but Duckworth has endured a nightmare year and he doesn’t look like turning things around here.

Duckworth was in career-best form at the end of last year as he broke into the top 50 after reaching his maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final in Paris – but sensationally, he hasn’t won a match on tour since.

Indeed, Duckworth lost all of his matches during the Australian summer before being forced to undergo hip surgery, which sidelined him for the next four months.

Duckworth is still searching for his first tour-level win in 2022, losing all 10 such matches dating back to November last year. Not exactly ideal preparation for facing a former World No. 1 on Centre Court in his home slam.

Murray of course has dealt with his own nightmare injury problems over the last few years that threatened to end his career prematurely.

The Scot has managed to claw his ranking back to No. 51 in the world over the last couple of seasons and played arguably his best tennis in the last five years in the lead-up to Wimbledon in Stuttgart, where he claimed a top five scalp over Stefanos Tsitsipas, beat the in-form Nick Kyrgios and pushed Matteo Berrettini all the way in the final.

Murray made the precautionary move to withdraw from Queens due to an abdominal issue, but he’s stated he’s feeling fine heading into Wimbledon, so that shouldn’t be an issue.

Murray has been able to defeat Duckworth in both their previous meetings and he was in worse physical condition then than he is now.

If Murray can pick up from where he left off in Stuttgart, he’s excellent value to beat Duckworth in straight sets.
