The WTA Miami quarter-final between Aryna Sabalenka and Sorana Cirstea features as Bettingpro.com.au’s best bet for Wednesday March 29.
Bet Of The Day March 29 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.
Key Points
- Sabalenka has won 21 of her 23 matches this season
- Sabalenka has won 18 of those matches in straight sets
- Sabalenka has seen zero tiebreaks in 16 of those victories
- Sabalenka has only lost to Rybakina and Krejcikova this season
- Cirstea has never beaten at top 2 player before
- Cirstea only has three top 10 wins since 2017 – and two came vs Caroline Garcia
We’re off to WTA Miami for today’s best bet as Aryna Sabalenka looks to continue her blistering start to 2023 and reach another semi-final when she meets Sorana Cirstea in the last eight.
Sabalenka has been on fire to start to the season, winning 21 of her 23 matches and picking up titles at Adelaide and the Australian Open.
The World No. 2 also reached the final at Indian Wells a couple of weeks ago.
Sabalenka’s only defeats this season have come against Elena Rybakina and Barbora Krejcikova, who has been playing top five level tennis lately. Sabalenka was able to avenge that Dubai defeat to Krejcikova in Miami this week, winning their R16 match comfortably by a 6-3 6-2 score.
It comes as no surprise Sabalenka is the big favourite, but we can find some decent value for her to win in straight sets with no tiebreak.
Of her 21 wins for the season, 18 have been in straight sets. Rybakina, Krejcikova and Ostapenko are the only players to have taken a set.
Additionally, 16 of those victories have features no tiebreaks.
Basically, when Sabalenka wins this season, she’s doing so convincingly the overwhelming majority of the time.
Cirstea is actually having a great season herself and comes into this clash having won eight of her last 10 matches, but this is shaping as the end of the road for the Romanian.
There’s a reason Cirstea hasn’t had a more successful career and that’s because she has a ceiling and struggles with her consistency and ability to put long streaks together.
Sabalenka is on another level and we’re confident the World No. 2 cruises to another victory and semi-final here.
