Australia and New Zealand renew rivalries when the first test gets underway in Perth on Thursday and it promises to be a contest of the highest order with both teams coming off series wins.

The hosts are fresh from blanking Pakistan 2-0 in a series that was dominated by the Australians in all departments. David Warner (489 runs) was utterly dominant, while Marnus Labuschagne (347 runs) was equally consistent.

The pair look set for more runs again in Perth, particularly with New Zealand losing Trent Boult to an injury picked up in the series victory over England.

Labuschagne has been the consistent performer for Australia since the Ashes, arguably the most improved batsman in the side since grabbing his chance with both hands.

The stylish right-hander should once again be among the runs and another first innings half-century is the bet of the day for Thursday.
