Bet Of The Day August 26

Andrew Hendrie:
Bet Of The Day August 26

The NRL Round 24 match between Newcastle Knights and Gold Coast Titans features as’s best bet for Thursday August 26.

Bet Of The Day August 26 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.

We’re off to the NRL for today’s best bet as the Knights look to wrap up a finals spot when they square off against the Titans.

Newcastle have hit form at exactly the right time of the season with Mitchell Pearce and Kalyn Ponga finally back to full fitness, coming into this encounter on the back of a four-match winning streak.

Pearce and mid-season recruit Jake Clifford are a perfect 5-0 when combining together in the halves, while Ponga chipping into the attack from fullback has given the Knights some much-needed spark in attack.

The Knights haven’t been entirely convincing in their four-match winning run, prevailing by 1-12 margins in all of those victories, but they are knuckling down and getting the job done.

Meanwhile, the Titans have suffered back-to-back defeats to heavyweights Melbourne and South Sydney over the last fortnight, conceding 34+ points in both.

Gold Coast had won three matches in a row before those defeats, but they were against arguably the three worst teams in the competition right now in the Bulldogs, Cowboys and Dragons.

Those defeats have left the Titans needing to win this to realistically keep their finals chances alive, but we have our doubts.

Gold Coast play a fast-paced touch footy style of play, but it’s not sustainable and they don’t like getting into the grind.

If the Knights can keep it close throughout, they are far more reliable when push comes to shove in the last 20 minutes.

Add in the fact that the Titans have lost their last 10 games against teams currently in the top eight and it showcases that Gold Coast don’t have what it takes to beat the better sides in the NRL.
