The NRL Round 4 match between the Cronulla Sharks and Newcastle Knights features as Bettingpro.com.au’s best bet for Friday April 1.
Bet Of The Day April 1 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.
TODAY'S BEST BET | APRIL 1
- Sharks have won their last four home matches vs Knights
- Knights have lost 14 of their last 18 away matches
- Six of Sharks’ last eight NRL games have been decided by a 1-12 margin
- Knights are coming off a loss to the Panthers
- Sharks have won their last two games
- Two of Sharks’ three games this season were decided by five points or less
We’re off to the NRL for today’s best bet as the Sharks target their third win on the trot against the Knights at PointsBet Stadium.
Cronulla have been tipped as the side most likely to break into the top four this season and early signs suggest those calls are right on the money.
After a tight loss to the Raiders in the opening round, the Sharks have been excellent in claiming a close win over the Eels before blowing the Dragons off the park last week.
New signings Nicho Hynes and Dale Finucane have been quality, while Craig Fitzgibbon looks the goods as coach after plying his trade under Trent Robinson at the Roosters.
Newcastle have also had a bright start to the season, but they received a kick in the guts with a big loss to the Panthers last week that was largely due to Mitch Barnett getting sent off in the first half.
That defeat will be tough to recover from, especially with a road trip to the Shire, where they haven’t fared too well over the years.
Indeed, the Sharks have won their last four home games against the Knights, while Newcastle have lost 14 of their last 18 away fixtures.
With the wet weather and the fact Newcastle’s defence was strong over the first two rounds, we’re not expecting a blowout like the Sharks did to the Dragons seven days ago.
Six of Cronulla’s last eight NRL games have been decided by a 1-12 margin, so odds are we will see another relatively close affair here.
But it’s the Sharks who got over the line at home by two points against the Eels a fortnight ago and they have the wood over the Knights at this ground. Back Cronulla to grind this one out.
