We’re off to the Paris Masters for today’s best bet as Alexander Zverev and Ugo Humbert square off for a spot in the third round.

We’re going to fade Zverev here for a number of reasons.

First up, the German hasn’t been anywhere near his best for his last few tournaments, suffering first round exits in Shanghai and Tokyo, while he was knocked out in the quarter-finals of Vienna last week by Andrey Rublev.

Zverev then struggled considerably against qualifier Marton Fucsovics in his Paris opener, dropping the opening set before finally closing it out in 6-4 in the decider.

There could be a reason for his poor performances lately – it was recently confirmed that Zverev has been fined and issued a penalty order for the alleged assault of his ex-girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Humbert has been on fire lately and is playing some of the best tennis of his career.

The Frenchman has won 10 of his last 13 matches and cruised past an in-form Marcus Giron in straight sets in his opening match in Paris.

Humbert made his first Masters 1000 quarter-final at this tournament in 2020, so he loves playing in these indoor conditions, while he also has an excellent 9-10 record against top 10 players.

Furthermore, Humbert has a 1-0 H2H record over Zverev, winning their only previous meeting in 2021 at Halle, so he knows he has the game to win this matchup.

We’ll be taking Humbert with a +2.5 games head start, but he also has a great chance of winning outright at odds of $2.75.
