Bet Of The Day May 4

Andrew Hendrie:
Bet Of The Day May 4

The ATP Madrid Masters R16 match between Jannik Sinner and Alex de Minaur features as’s best bet for Wednesday May 4.

Bet Of The Day May 4 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.

Key Points

  • Sinner is 3-0 vs De Minaur
  • Sinner has covered the -3.5 games handicap in all three of those wins
  • Sinner has won his last 23 matches vs players outside the top 10
  • De Minaur is 6-27 vs top 10 players throughout his career

We’re off to the Madrid Masters for today’s best bet as Jannik Sinner looks to continue his sensational run of form against Alex De Minaur in the Round of 16.

It pains us to back against an Aussie, but de Minaur is always a good player to fade when he comes up against a top 10 rival.

Indeed, de Minaur is a measly 6-27 vs the top 10 throughout his career and we don’t think he’s capable of improving that record here.

De Minaur always competes well and is one of the biggest fighters on tour, but the reality is that he doesn’t have the firepower to compete with the very best in the world.

His serve doesn’t allow him to win free points, so he has to work twice as hard as most of his rivals – and although he’s made some solid improvement on clay, it’s still far from an ideal surface for his flat game.

Sinner is one of the brightest young talents in tennis and he has made huge strides over the last 12 months, rising into the top 10 on the back of some superb performances.

The Italian isn’t technically in the top 10 at the moment at No. 12, but make no mistake – his current form is top 10 every day of the week.

Sinner hasn’t lost to a player outside of the top 10 since November last year, with his only defeats in completed matches in 2022 coming against Alexander Zverev, Hubert Hurkacz and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Sinner has won his last 23 matches against players outside the top 10 – he’s ruthless vs those ranked below him and he will be keen to extend that dominance on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old loves this match-up as well, winning all three of his previous meetings with de Minaur – including a straight sets beatdown at this year’s Australian Open.

Sinner has covered the -3.5 games handicap in all three of those victories and he’s excellent value to do it again in Madrid.
