The US Open fourth round match between Andrey Rublev and Jack Draper features as Bettingpro.com.au’s best bet for Monday September 4.
Bet Of The Day September 4 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.
Key Points
- Rublev has won both previous meetings between the pair
- Rublev is 8-3 in Grand Slam fourth round matches
- Rublev has won his last four Grand Slam fourth round matches
- Draper has never made a Grand Slam quarter-final
- Draper has taken sets off Nadal and Djokovic in Grand Slam matches
- Rublev has dropped a set in his last two US Open matches vs Monfils & Rinderknech
We’re off to the US Open for today’s best bet as Andrey Rublev and Jack Draper square off for a spot in the quarter-finals.
Draper has put together an excellent run to the fourth round and looks to be playing without injury, which is the biggest win for him in a young career that has been so affected by his body’s refusal to cooperate.
However, I think Draper’s run comes to an end here.
Rublev owns a 2-0 record over the Brit and has tons of experience in this situation, reaching the US Open quarter-finals on three previous occasions.
The Russian might stumble in the last eight, but getting to the quarter-finals has never been an issue. Indeed, Rublev is 0-8 in slam quarter-finals, but a solid 8-3 in fourth round matches, including winning four on the bounce.
In saying that, Draper will have his chances – the youngster has a fantastic lefty serve/forehand combination, which should fire into Rublev’s weaker backhand side.
Which leads me to believe Draper can win at least a set here, especially when you consider Rublev has dropped a set in his last two matches against Gael Monfils and Arthur Rinderknech.
Draper has troubled top 10 players before too, taking a set off Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon and Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open. He’s also taken a set off Carlos Alcaraz and Rublev in their Madrid 2022 meeting.
But Rublev should prove too strong in the end, while there’s also concern over Draper’s fitness, which could negatively impact him at any moment, especially in a potential five-setter.
