The NRL Round 5 match between Newcastle Knights and Manly Sea Eagles features as Bettingpro.com.au’s best bet for Thursday April 7.
Bet Of The Day April 7 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.
TODAY'S BEST BET | APRIL 7
- Knights have won the last three games between the sides
- All of those three wins were by 1-12 margins
- Sea Eagles have won just 33 per cent of games without Tom Trbojevic
We’re off to the NRL for today’s best bet as the Newcastle Knights look to return to the winners circle when they play host to the Manly Sea Eagles.
Both teams are 2-2 to start the season, with the Knights winning their opening two matches and Manly prevailing in their last two outings.
Normally the Sea Eagles would have all the momentum heading into this clash, but that’s not the case on Thursday night for one key reason.
Star fullback Tom Trbojevic has been ruled out with a knee injury for the next 4-6 weeks, which is a huge blow for the Sea Eagles as they attempt to improve on last season’s top four finish.
Incredibly, the Sea Eagles have won just 33 per cent of games without Trbojevic since the start of the 2019 season, compared to a 75 per cent winning ratio when he’s playing. That’s an enormous difference.
Manly haven’t been operating at the peak of their powers with Trbojevic playing in the first four games, slumping to heavy defeats against the Panthers and Roosters and barely scraping past the embattled Bulldogs before improving slightly against the Raiders.
Meanwhile, the Knights started the season on fire with big wins over the Roosters and Tigers, before their momentum was crushed when Mitch Barnett was sent off when they were matching it with the Panthers. Last week’s 18-0 loss to the Sharks in the shire was a tough result.
However, the Knights are always a better side at home and they’ve won their last three meetings with Manly. Furthermore, all of those victories were by a 1-12 margin.
With heavy rain predicted, we’re likely to see a low-scoring affair and a close game as a result. We’re liking the Knights to continue their good record against a Manly side without Turbo at home.
