TODAY'S BEST BET | MAY 13
- Anisimova has won all four previous meetings with Sabalenka
- Anisimova has defeated Sabalenka on clay in Charleston and Madrid in 2022
- Anisimova also beat Sabalenka en route to the French Open semi-finals in 2019
- Anisimova has won 10 of her last 12 matches
- Sabalenka is 6-6 in her last 12 matches
- Sabalenka had failed to win back-to-back matches in nine of her 12 events before Rome
We’re off to WTA Rome for today’s best bet as Amanda Anisimova looks to extend her dominant record over Aryna Sabalenka and reach the semi-finals.
Anisimova has won all four previous meetings with Sabalenka, despite being the lower-ranked player on each occasion – and she’s priced as the underdog in this match-up in Rome.
Of those four previous victories, two of them have come on clay over the last couple of months, with Anisimova prevailing in Charleston and just last week in Madrid, both in three sets.
Clearly this is a match-up Anisimova loves and she will fancy herself of another win here.
Sabalenka is one of the most inconsistent players on tour and she hasn’t been able to solve the Anisimova puzzle so far in her career.
The World No. 8 has slipped from No. 2 at the start of the season and hasn’t been playing well, although admittedly she’s put together some big performances so far in Rome.
However, those wins were against Zhang Shuai and a tired Jessica Pegula, so we’re going to need to see more from Sabalenka before declaring she’s title-winning material this week.
Anisimova meanwhile has scored three very good wins this week, edging out Teresa Martincova in three sets in her opening round before conquering Belinda Bencic and Danielle Collins in straight sets.
A French Open semi-finalist when she was a teenager, Anisimova is right at home on the clay and now has more experience under her belt.
As mentioned, Anisimova loves this match-up and has already defeated Sabalenka twice on clay over the last two months. There’s no reason she can’t make it three in Rome.
