Bet Of The Day May 25

Andrew Hendrie:
Bet Of The Day May 25

The French Open second round match between Karen Khachanov and Hugo Dellien features as’s best bet for Wednesday May 25.

Bet Of The Day May 25 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.

Key Points

  • Khachanov has reached at least R3 of Roland Garros in four of his last five appearances
  • Khachanov has seen over 35.5 games in 18 of his last 26 Grand Slam matches
  • Khachanov won his R1 match 6-3 2-6 6-4 6-4 over Borges
  • Dellien has never beaten a top 30 player in his career
  • Dellien has won a set but lost in his only two Grand Slam R2 appearances
  • 31 of Dellien’s 32 wins in 2022 have come on clay

We’re off to the French Open for today’s best bet as World No. 25 Karen Khachanov aims for the third round against World No. 90 Hugo Dellien.

Khachanov, who was once ranked as high as No. 8 in the world, is a former quarter-finalist at the French Open and has made at least the third round in four of his last five appearances at the tournament.

It hasn’t been the most consistent last few years or so for Khachanov and that’s been reflected in his form in the lead-up to Roland Garros – he’s taken sets off the likes of Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas, but also lost to Lucas Pouille and Alex Molcan.

It’s for this reason we can see a fairly drawn out and competitive affair here – but we’re confident Khachanov will step up when it matters most and raise his level in the crunch moments to prevail.

Khachanov is no stranger to long matches at slams, with 18 of his last 26 matches at the majors producing over 35.5 games – including his Round 1 6-3 2-6 6-4 6-4 victory over qualifier Nuno Borges.

Dellien is absolutely no slouch on clay despite his lowly ranking and is coming off a brilliant straight sets dispatch over Dominic Thiem – although the Austrian has been struggling since returning from injury.

The Bolivian has won 32 matches at all levels this season and 31 of those have come on clay, once again highlighting just how dangerous he can be on the dirt.

Dellien has put up massive fights in his two previous Grand Slam second round matches, winning sets off both Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev at the 2019 French and US Opens.

However, Dellien has never been able to go on with the job against the very best players throughout his career and has yet to beat any player ranked inside the top 30.

With all that in mind, Khachanov to win in either four or five sets looks like the best bet here – and if that happens, over 35.5 games is almost certainly a lock.
