There’s a huge gulf in form and class between these two players. Shang is rising quickly up the rankings and looks to be on his way to the top 50 within the next six months. Gomez meanwhile is a journeyman and currently operating at No. 139 in the world at 31 years of age.

The Chinese player resides in Florida and has competed in the States for years. He loves these conditions and impressed last week in Atlanta, qualifying for the main draw and beating Ben Shelton in straight sets before falling to Kei Nishikori.
