Bet Of The Day November 9

Andrew Hendrie:
Bet Of The Day November 9

The Round 1 match between Stefano Travaglia and Nikoloz Basilashvili at the ATP Sofia Open features asโ€™s best bet for Monday November 8.

Bet Of The Day November 9 – read on below for our reasoning behind todayโ€™s best bet.

One week ago we were successful with backing Jan-Lennard Struff to beat Nikoloz Basilashvili with a -5 games handicap and weโ€™re confident the embattled Georgian will be on the wrong end of the scoreline once again in Sofia as he gears up to play what should be the final match of a nightmare season.

Basilashvili has lost his last eight matches on the bounce dating back to February – and even more shockingly, dropped his last 18 sets during that period. Indeed, he hasnโ€™t won a set since before the global health pandemic struck.

Suffice to say itโ€™s been a woeful run of form for Basilashvili, who is also dealing with very serious off-court allegations from his ex-partner. He lost 6-4 6-2 to Struff in Paris last week and is nowhere near his best tennis.

Travaglia hasnโ€™t been setting the world on fire either, but heโ€™s playing much better than his opponent, recently making the third round of the French Open – going down to eventual champion Rafael Nadal – and qualifying for the main draw of Paris last week, falling to Alex de Minaur.

The Italian doesnโ€™t have many weapons, but he is a dogged competitor and gets a lot of balls back, which will frustrate Basilashvili, who doesnโ€™t have the patience or mentality right now to dig in for long baseline exchanges.

Thereโ€™s absolutely nothing to suggest that Basilashvili is ready to turn things around in his last tournament of the season, so weโ€™re confident Travaglia can prevail in straight sets and condemn the Georgian to his ninth consecutive loss.

Key Points

  • Basilashvili has lost his last eight matches
  • Basilashvili has lost his last 18 sets dating back to February
  • Travaglia has won back-to-back matches at four of his last six tournaments at all levels
