We’re heading to the AFL as we attempt to land our fourth #BOTD in a row when Fremantle play host to Geelong at Optus Stadium.

Geelong are solid value here, despite missing Jeremy Cameron and Gary Rohan to injury.

It should be a tight contest considering Fremantle have hit some good form and come into this clash having won three of their last four matches, but the Cats still have the edge in our book.

Geelong have won eight of their last nine matches and have bounced back well from their loss to Brisbane in Round 15, conquering the Bombers and Blues in comfortable fashion.

The Cats also have a great record against the Dockers, winning five of the last six encounters between the sides dating back to 2016.

Additionally, three of the last four meetings between the teams have been decided by 1-39 margins – and with Freo in good form, we can expect another relatively tight game here.

Fremantle have been impressive over the last month or so, but the fact remains that only one of their eight wins this season have come against teams in the top half of the ladder.

That illustrates they almost always stumble when coming up against the elite.

Geelong are very much that, and even without some key personnel, the Cats should be coming away with the four points tonight.

Key Points

  • Geelong have won eight of their last nine AFL games
  • Geelong have won five of their last six meetings between the teams
  • Three of the last four games between the teams have been decided by a 1-39 margin
  • Only one of Fremantle’s eight wins in 2021 have been vs sides in the top half of the ladder
