We’re heading back to the Euros for today’s best bet as France target the quarter-finals against Switzerland.

Reigning World Cup champions France managed to finish top in the ‘Group of Death’ ahead of Germany and Portugal and can now turn their attention to the knockout phases, where they’ve received a favourable clash in the Round of 16.

Unbeaten in their last 19 competitive matches, France did what they needed to do in order to navigate themselves out of the group stage and showcased some improved attacking flair in their 2-2 draw with Portugal in their last outing.

There’s no question marks over France’s attack if they get going, but it’s in defence where they’ve been impressive in their most recent victories.

Indeed, France have won to nil in their last five victories, including a 1-0 triumph over Germany in their opening match of the Euros.

That shows that when France win, they usually do so with a shut out of the opposition.

Switzerland aren’t showing much in attack these Euros and could only finish third in their group behind Italy and Wales.

The Swiss were completely outclassed when coming up against top-tier opposition in going down 3-0 to Italy and we can expect a similar sort of game here.

Switzerland have also been eliminated at the R16 stage in their last three major tournaments, highlighting their struggles when it gets to the crunch.

France have been building nicely this tournament and have arguably their easiest game of the Euros here – they should be able to get the win and keep a clean sheet in the process.

Key Points

  • France are unbeaten in their last 19 competitive matches
  • France have won 14 of those games
  • France’s last five wins have all been to nil
  • Switzerland went winless in two of their three group games and lost 3-0 to Italy
  • Switzerland have been knocked out at the R16 stage in their last three major tournaments
