Andrew Hendrie:
Bet Of The Day October 22

The ATP Antwerp quarter-final between Jenson Brooksby and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina features as’s best bet for Friday October 22.

Bet Of The Day October 22 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.

We’re off to the ATP Antwerp quarter-finals at the European Open for today’s best bet as rising star Jenson Brooksby looks to continue his sensational run of form when he comes up against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the quarter-finals.

Touted as the next big thing of American tennis, Brooksby has put together a seismic rise on tour throughout 2021, climbing from outside the top 300 at the start of the year to a current career-high of No. 70 – and that mark is getting higher by the week.

Brooksby started the year on the Challenger circuit and ended up becoming the first American since 2006 to win three titles in a season, swiftly catapulting him to the main tour.

The 20-year-old has been on fire since transitioning to the ATP circuit, finishing runner-up in Newport, making the semi-finals in Washington and reaching the fourth round of the US Open as a wildcard, where he ended up taking a set off Novak Djokovic.

Brooksby also took a set off Alexander Zverev in Indian Wells a couple of weeks ago before embarking on his Antwerp campaign this week, which has seen the American win four matches from qualifying without dropping a single set.

Brooksby eased past Michael Geerts and Norbert Gombos in qualifying and has upped the ante in the main draw, defeating Reily Opelka 6-4 6-4 in the opening round before absolutely crushing US Open quarter-finalist Botic Van De Zandschulp 6-2 6-0 to reach the last eight.

So high was Brooksby’s level that Opelka exclaimed during his first round defeat – ‘how did Djokovic win a game against this guy’!

Brooksby’s last 11 wins at ATP level have all been in straight sets, which highlights his dominance when he gets on top.

We’re backing the young American to continue that pattern on Friday – Davidovich Fokina has really been struggling since the French Open and only won back-to-back matches for the first time again this week.
