Bet Of The Day September 6

The US Open fourth round match between Bianca Andreescu and Maria Sakkari features as’s best bet for Monday September 6.

Bet Of The Day September 6 – read on below for our reasoning behind today’s best bet.

We’re heading to the US Open for today’s best bet as former champion Bianca Andreescu takes on French Open semi-finalist Maria Sakkari in a blockbuster fourth round showdown.

It promises to be a cracking encounter, but we’re a little surprised to see Andreescu as the underdog given the circumstances.

Yes, it’s true that the Canadian has had horrific luck with injuries since winning the 2019 US Open title, but she appears to be operating at full fitness so far in New York.

Andreescu got her campaign started with a tough three-set win over the in-form Viktorija Golubic before easing past Lauren Davis and Greet Minnen in straight sets to make the second week.

Andreescu lost just 11 points on serve in a 6-1 6-2 mauling of Minnen in the third round and looks to be building momentum at exactly the right time.

Then there’s the fact that Andreescu has never lost a match at the US Open – she famously stormed to the title two years ago with a thumping win over Serena Williams in the final and missed last season through injury.

Additionally, Andreescu usually goes on with the job when she sinks her teeth into a tournament – apart from injury withdrawals, the Canadian has only ever lost one match after reaching the fourth round of a major or 1000 event (a 6-4 in the third defeat to Osaka at the 2019 China Open).

The point is this – Andreescu rarely loses from this position and we’re not sure whether Sakkari will be just the second player to defeat her.

The Greek is in great form – she made the semi-finals of Roland Garros and hasn’t dropped a set yet at the US Open, demolishing Petra Kvitova in the previous round.

However, Sakkari has been known to crumble in the pressure moments throughout her career and especially this season. She’s made the semi-finals at four events, but only has one title to show for it.

Sakkari also blew a lead from a winning position earlier this year at the Miami Open as Andreescu came back from 2-4 down in the third to prevail in a final set tiebreak. Andreescu was struggling physically and was forced to retire in the final against Ash Barty.

Andreescu was able to defeat Sakkari well below her best earlier this year and she’s looking much stronger now. We’ll happily back the former champion who is undefeated at Flushing Meadows as the underdog in this match-up.
