Former WBA Heavyweight champion Lucas Browne clashes with unbeaten former NRL star Paul Gallen at WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong on Wednesday, April 21.
A six-round bout will take place between Browne who boasts a 29-2 record and Paul Gallen who has a 10-0-1 record with the draw coming against former AFL forward Barry Hall. Read on for Gallen vs Browne tips.
Paul Gallen vs Lucas Browne
Lucas Browne has had 31 professional boxing bouts for 29 wins and two losses; 25 of his victories have come via knockout with just four decision wins. Both of Browne’s losses have come via knockout with Dillian Whyte and David Allen stopping Browne in those respective fights.
Browne also had an eight-fight career in mixed martial arts where he finished with a 6-2 record with all wins via knockout. In 2010, he would fight a man that would go on to become UFC Light Heavyweight and UFC Heavyweight champion; that man would be none other than Daniel Cormier.
Gallen is set to have his 12th professional boxing bout and comes off a unanimous decision victory over former UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt in December 2020.
Both men defeated John Hopoate in 2019 with knockout victories in the second round.
Browne is the much taller man in the fight standing 6’5” compared to Gallen at 5’11” which sees Browne with a six-inch reach advantage. He should look to use that advantage to keep Gallen at bay but Gallen isn’t afraid to absorb punches.
Five of Gallen’s 10 wins have come via knockout with five unanimous decision victories to his name also. I don’t know if Gallen will be able to stop Browne, but he should be able to go the full six rounds with him, provided he doesn’t eat too many combinations from Browne to become the 26th person to suffer a knockout loss to Browne.
Browne hasn’t fought since 2019 and at the age of 42, there must be concerns about “Big Daddy” slowing down. We think this fight will go the distance.
