UFC 252 Tips

The UFC Heavyweight Championship is on the line when the trilogy between champion Stipe Miocic and former two-division champion Daniel Cormier ends.

In the co-main event, unbeaten Bantamweight “Suga” Sean O’Malley fights Marlon Vera in what should be an entertaining bout.

Here are our tips and predictions for the main card of UFC 252.

Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier

Sean O’Malley vs Marlon Vera

Holding a perfect 12-0 record, O’Malley enters the fight on the back of a first round KO over Eddie Wineland at UFC 250.

Standing in his way is Marlon “Chito” Vera (15-6-1) who lost back in May against Song Yadong. Prior to that loss, Vera was on a five-fight winning streak.

O’Malley boasts eight knockout victories to his name and his striking should be on display in this bout. The question is whether he will be able to stop Vera who has lost six fights, all via decision.

It would not surprise to see Vera come out victorious in this bout either; strong leaning towards O’Malley going a perfect 13 however, with the result being via decision.

Junior Dos Santos vs Jairzinho Rozenstruik

Another Heavyweight bout on the card features former UFC Heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos (21-7) fighting up and comer Jairzinho Rozenstruik (10-1).

Dos Santos has lost his past two fights to Francis Ngannou and Curtis “Razor” Blaydes. Both losses were via TKO early in the first and second rounds.

Rozenstruik was unbeaten before Ngannou knocked him out in 20 seconds at UFC 249.

Both men will be desperate for a win. Dos Santos has stood at the top of the division previously and his last win was over Derrick Lewis who has won three-straight fights since then.

Happy to side with Dos Santos as an underdog where his experience should serve him well if he can avoid the power hitting of “Bigi Boy.”

John Dodson vs Merab Dvalishvili

A Bantamweight bout between John Dodson (22-11) and Merab Dvalishvili (11-4).

Dvalishvili has won his past four fights, all via Decision, as he looks to continue on his winning ways. Dodson comes off a win over Nathaniel Wood which came after two-straight losses, including a Decision defeat against the new UFC Bantamweight champion Petr Yan.

Dodson’s takedown defense will need to be at its best as Dvalishvili averages a whopping 7.8 takedowns per 15 minutes. If Dodson can quickly find his feet after any takedowns and start landing a few shots on his opponent, then he could be the victor in the judges’ eyes.

The odds discrepancy looks too large in this bout with Dodson yet to be stopped in his career. All 11 losses have been via Decision, which tends to be the method of victory for Dvalishvili.

Herbert Burns vs Daniel Pineda

A Featherweight bout between Herbert Burns (11-2) and Daniel Pineda (26-13, 2NC).

Burns is the brother of Gilbert Burns and will look to make it a sixth-straight victory. Burns has been dominant via submission with victories via rear naked choke, triangle choke and triangle armbar.

He is a short-priced favourite and have to favour him winning via submission over Pineda as he returns to the UFC for another stint.
