UFC Fight Night 170: Lee vs Oliveira Tips and Predictions

Trent Orwin:
Kevin Lee UFC

Kevin Lee and Charles Oliveira headline UFC Fight Night 170 at Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brazil on Sunday, March 15 at 11am.

There are a couple of key fights that we like on the card and here are out best bets for UFC Fight Night 170.

Kevin Lee v Charles Oliveira

The main event is a Lightweight bout between the #8 ranked Kevin Lee (18-5-0) and the #13 ranked Charles Oliveira (28-8-0, 1NC). Lee will have a three-inch reach advantage in the fight.

Lee quickly put back-to-back losses behind him with a first-round KO of Gregor Gillespie at UFC 244. Only three of his 18 wins have come via KO/TKO but this is the method that we are predicting to occur on this card.

A doctor stoppage signalled a TKO victory for Lee over Edson Barboza in 2018 and it’s hard to get the Gillespie head kick KO out of our minds from his last fight. Oliveira is known for his grappling with 18 submission victories to his name. He is also on a six-fight win streak with none of those fights making it into the third round.

Lee averages slightly more takedowns than Oliveira per 15 minutes but he may want to keep this fight on his feet to avoid any submission attempts. Lee can still deal damage on the mat and Oliveira may not withstand the power.

We like Lee to win the main event of UFC Fight Night 170 via KO or TKO.

Johnny Walker v Nikita Krylov

This Light Heavyweight bout could be a blink and you miss it moment. Johnny Walker had a nine-fight win streak ended by Corey Anderson at UFC 244 via TKO in the first round.

Prior to that loss, the 17-4 Walker had won via KO or TKO in the first round three times. He finished Justin Ledet in just 15 seconds and followed it up with a 36-second fight against Misha Cirkunov.

Walker will be out for redemption following the Anderson loss and has ambitions of a rematch. A quick finish of Krylov could see that match booked sooner rather than later.

Krylov has lost two of his past three fights to Jan Blachowicz (who has since defeated Anderson) and Glover Teixeira. His win in that time came over Ovince Saint Preux via a rear-naked choke. All 25 victory for the 25-7 Krylov have been finishes with 10 knockouts and 15 submissions.

We definitely aren’t ruling out the Ukrainian who has the offense to stop Walker but we think the Brazilian can make a statement once again with a knockout finish.
