UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs Hooker Best Bets and Predictions

Trent Orwin:
Poirier vs Hooker

UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs Hooker will be held at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas on Sunday, June 28 at 10am AEST.

The main event is a Lightweight bout between Dustin โ€œThe Diamondโ€ Poirier and Dan โ€œThe Hangmanโ€ Hooker. See below for our prediction of Poirier vs Hooker.

In the co-main event, it is a Welterweight bout between Mike Perry and Mickey Gall.

Here are our best bets and predictions for UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs Hooker on ESPN.

Dustin Poirier vs Dan Hooker

Poirier (25-6-0, 1NC) enters the fight after failing to win the undisputed UFC Lightweight Championship against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Before that loss he had beaten Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez and Max Holloway for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship.

Hooker (21-8-0) is on a three-fight winning streak with a KO victory over James Vick before decision wins over Al Iaquinta and Paul Felder.

Bookmakers have Poirier a strong favourite, but this fight looks closer than that. The $2.80 looks tempting for Hooker but not convinced enough considering how well Poirier has been fighting and going with over 2.5 rounds at $1.83.

Hooker knocked out Jim Miller, Gilbert Burns and Vick in the first round which is impressive, however, Poirier should be a lot tougher and this fight is likely to enter rounds three and beyond.

Mike Perry vs Mickey Gall

Perry (13-6-0) has knocked out his opponent 11 times with the other two victories coming via decision so it would seem probable that the striker would be looking to put Gall to sleep in the co-main event.

He comes off back-to-back losses to Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal and will be desperate to record another victory. His last win came over Alex โ€œCowboyโ€ Oliveira via unanimous decision.

Gall (6-2-0) has just eight professional fights to his name. Five of his six wins have come via rear-naked chokes. His key to success will be taking down Perry and looking for a submission. If he stands and trades shots with Perry, it probably wonโ€™t end too well.

The striker vs grappler style in fights can be intriguing but we are going with the striking power of Perry here to come up trumps.

Gian Villante vs Maurice Greene

Greene (8-5-0) meets Villante (17-11-0) who makes his Heavyweight debut. Greene will have a six-inch reach advantage in the fight and has 28 pounds on Villante who steps up from 205lbs to 230lbs.

Greene to win by knockout is considered the most likely outcome in the fight according to bookmakers but you canโ€™t forget about submissions with โ€œThe Crochet Boss.โ€ He submitted Michel Batista on The Ultimate Fighter: Heavy Hitters Finale.

Villante can throw hands and heโ€™s definitely a chance of stopping Greene but going with the bigger man in this fight to win by either KO or submission with a smaller bet on submission only at $12.
