Brownlow Medal night is fast approaching and Hawthorn's Tom Mitchell dominates betting for the league best and fairest at the $1.62 quote with BetEasy.

Is the Hawk midfielder over the line or should we consider other betting options? We have trawled through what is on offer and picked out our top three bets for the AFL's night of nights.

Fave vs The Field - The Field $2.30

Mitchell finished in 3rd position in 2017 with 25 votes, 11 behind the record-breaking winner, Dustin Martin, who picked up 36 votes, while the ineligible Patrick Dangerfield snagged 33. He should pick up a similar amount of votes as to what he did last year but the question is - will that be enough? He had similar stats to what he did in 2017 and the Hawks won four more regular season games, which will help his cause, however, more of his teammates fired in 2018 and the likes of Jaegar O'Meara may take some votes from the ball magnet. His rivals in the market will poll well, including Dustin Martin as well as a couple of Melbourne players in Max Gawn and Clayton Oliver, with that pair representing a bit of X-factor in the count, given the Demons rise in 2018. Mitchell eased out from a smaller price towards the end of the season. At one stage he was into $1.20 after the suspension of Andrew Gaff. But with plenty of unknowns in this count, the play may be to back the field.

Clayton Oliver Top Three - $6

Look for Oliver's side, Melbourne, to poll well when compared to other clubs. They won 14 games in the home and away season, placing 5th after Round 23 but a number of their victories were by massive margins, while they also endured a couple of close losses. They will have a number of players that poll well and the pick of those looks to be Clayton Oliver. He had 13 games where he gathered 30 possessions or more and the hard nut has the profile to attract the attention of the umpires, as he wins plenty of the contested football, as well as clearances. The Melbourne ruckman, Max Gawn may take some votes off him but there will be plenty to share around and the big men haven't fired in the Brownlow for a number of years. Oliver looks to be a bit of a value selection for top three calculations.

Shaun Higgins Top 10 - $2.75

One of the forgotten clubs each year in finals and Brownlow calculations is North Melbourne. Many predicted the Roos to grab the wooden spoon this year and they surprised by getting off to a flyer earlier in the year before finishing 9th. Their leading contender in the Brownlow this season is Shaun Higgins. The classy midfielder polled nine votes in 2017 and would need to double that to finish top 10 but he is a huge chance to do this. His side doubled the amount of wins that they had last year by notching up12 victories on their way to finishing 9th and the former Bulldog found more of the footy in 2018 when compared to last year, making the All-Australian side in the process.
