  • Here is our preview of the Saturday afternoon Adelaide Oval fixture

The Adelaide Crows and Collingwood meet at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday August 17.

The Round 22 encounter gets underway at 4.35pm AEST or 4.05pm ACST and all the action can be seen on Foxtel.

Match Preview

This shapes as a big game for both sides. Adelaide are trying to sneak into the top eight and currently sit in 9th position after their 10 point loss to the West Coast Eagles in Round 21.

Further up the ladder, Collingwood are in 5th position, just one game outside of the top four. Another victory may see them edge inside that bracket and overhaul the loser of the Sunday clash between Richmond and West Coast.

The Magpies come off a 17 point win over Melbourne in Round 21 in what was a bit of an uninspiring game at the MCG. Nathan Buckley's side led by as many 42 points in the last quarter of that affair before conceding late goals.

The Pies ball winners should find enough supply and with the right mix inside their forward 50 they should be hard to beat. Brody Mihocek comes off a four goal haul, while Will Hoskin Elliot, Travis Varcoe and Jamie Elliot should provide plenty of energy.

At the other end of the ground, Adelaide fans will be hoping that Darcy Fogarty can back up his heroics from last weekend after booting five goals. Sam Jacobs and the Crouch brothers will need to quell the Magpies midfield division.

Selection News

Adelaide's Rory Sloane is in doubt with an eye injury, while Alex Keath will need to pass a fitness test in his quest to return to the lineup.

Collingwood's Josh Daicos and Scott Pendlebury will be out to prove their fitness at training during the week. Daicos suffered a concussion in the win over Melbourne, while Pendlebury received treatment for an ankle injury. Jordan de Goey has been ruled out and what return from in his quest to overcome a hamstring injury.

Match Odds

Adelaide Crows $1.72
Collingwood $2.10

Stats

Adelaide have won five of the past six games against Collingwood, while the other result was a draw. The two sides last met in Round 4 of 2018 and that clash went the way of the Crows by 48 points. Rory Laird found plenty of the ball for the winners, while Steele Sidebottom racked up 43 touches for Collingwood.

Collingwood generally perform very well when they head interstate and are three from three in games outside of Victoria this season. However, they have not been able to defeat Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval in their two attempts in previous years.

Prediction and Tips

Alot will depend on how the Crows rebound after coming so close to scoring a big win over West Coast. That form is good enough to take this clash out and if the Crows can get off to a good start they will be hard to beat in front of their home fans.
