Adelaide Crows v Richmond Tigers Tips, Predictions and Match Preview - Can the Tigers turn things around?

  • Adelaide take on Richmond in the opening game of Round 13.
  • Here is our preview of the Thursday night clash.

Thursday night AFL action returns on June 13 when the Adelaide Crows take on Richmond at the Adelaide Oval.

The Round 13 encounter is the first of six matches for the weekend and gets underway at 7.50pm AEST. Channel 7 and Fox Footy will broadcast the game live.

Match Preview

The two sides are very evenly poised on the ladder as we edge past the half way mark of the home and away season. Both have won seven of their 12 matches but it is the Crows that head in with the superior recent form, having won their past two.

Don Pyke's side come off an entertaining nine point win over GWS in Round 12 and that effort followed a two point victory over Melbourne the week prior. In the same fortnight, injury riddled Richmond have suffered comprehensive losses to both North Melbourne and Geelong.

They went down to the Cats by 67 points in Round 12 in what was an un-Richmond like performance. The injury riddled Tigers need to find a way to win more of the football and were dominated in the possession count last weekend.

Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin take on  the likes of Rory Sloane and Brad and Matt Crouch in the middle of the ground. The Crows outfit average more possessions and clearances per game and will head in with confidence as their forwards are also starting to find form with Eddie Betts, Josh Jenkins and Taylor Walker amongst the goals last weekend.

At the other end of the ground, the Tigers managed just five goals in Round 12 after being well held. Another performance like that will spell trouble for their hopes of finishing top four later on.

Selection News

Adelaide have very few injury concerns. Tom Lynch missed the GWS game after hurting his calf prior to that hitout and will be out to prove his fitness. Bryce Gibbs remains in the SANFL.

Richmond's Kane Lambert, David Astbury and Jack Riewoldt remain on the sidelines. Dustin Martin received treatment in the loss to Geelong but is expected to be ok. Nick Vlaustin has a hip injury and will be out to prove his fitness.

Match Odds

Adelaide Crows $1.38
Richmond $3.14

Stats

The two sides famously met in the 2017 Grand Final and it was Richmond that broke the drought by recording a 48 point win with Dustin Martin snaring the Norm Smith Medal.

Last year, the two sides split their two clashes with Adelaide exacting some revenge for the Grand Final defeat in Round 2 by winning by 26 points at the Adelaide Oval, before Richmond scored a 47 by 47 at the MCG in Round 16.

Prediction and Tips

Richmond are out of form and it is hard to see them turning things around in time for Thursday night.
