The highly anticipated 2018 AFL Grand Final should be cracking match and the contest between the West Coast Eagles and Collingwood will be very hot early on.

Both sides will be desperate to score that magical first goal and there will be plenty of punters having a go at the popular bet type; first goalscorer.

We have taken some of the guesswork out for you and come up with a guide to finding the winner.

Looking at the statistics for West Coast for the 2018 season, their scoring has been dominated by two players and they are Jack Darling and Josh Kennedy. Darling has booted 47 goals this year, averaging 2.4 goals per game, while Kennedy has 40 goals for 3.1 per game.

Jamie Cripps (37 goals), Mark LeCras (32) and Willie Rioli (32) are others that have fared well in front of the big sticks in 2018. Those five players have combined for 56% of all the Eagles goals this year.

Collingwood have had a similar spread of goal kickers. Jordan de Goey (45), Will Hoskin-Elliot (41), Josh Thomas (38) and Jaidyn Stephenson (36) figure prominently, while Brody Mihocek has booted 28 goals from just 15 games. The in form Mason Cox has booted 23 goals from 16 matches.

Cox starred in the Magpies Preliminary Final win over Richmond last weekend, booting three goals, while de Goey kicked four, including the first of the game. Josh Thomas booted the first goal of the game in the Magpies Semi Final win over GWS.

The last time the Eagles and the Magpies met was in the Qualifying Final and it was the Eagles Nathan Vardy that bobbed up with a goal from a ruck contest in the forward line. Brody Mihocek had earlier missed two shots. Liam Ryan, Jack Darling and Josh Kennedy booted two goals for the Eagles that day, while De Goey, Mihocek and Taylor Adams snagged two for the Magpies.

In the Eagles Preliminary Final against Melbourne, Kennedy booted four goals, including the first of the game, while LeCras, Darling and Cripps kicked three each.

Suggested Bets:

Josh Kennedy (West Coast)

It is hard to go past West Coast's Josh Kennedy as the obvious selection. The big man is the Eagles go to player and after a rusty start in his comeback from injury in the Qualifying Final, he rallied to kick two important goals in the second half, before blitzing Melbourne early in the game last weekend. He is generally a very good set shot (69% in 2018) and with the extra responsibility in the Grand Final he is likely to step up if he can get his hands on the ball early on.

Mason Cox (Collingwood)

Collingwood tend to share their goals around a lot more than the Eagles but on past form the two to consider are Jordan de Goey and Mason Cox. I have a slight learning towards the big man in Cox, given his ability to pluck a contested grab from nowhere. The early parts of the Grand Final are traditionally a bit of a slog, which may play into his hands, rather than a leading type in de Goey.

Daniel Venables (West Coast)

For those that like a bit of value, why not consider West Coast's Daniel Venables. The Eagles youngster has booted just nine goals from the 14 games but spends most of his time up forward and often finds the ball inside 50, only to dish off to some of his better known teammates. With plenty of heat in the Grand Final early on he may just find himself in the right spot at the right time and can sneak under the radar of Collingwood's back six.
