  • Here is our rundown of the big day.

The 2019 AFL Grand Final takes place on Saturday September 28 at the MCG and gets underway at its traditional 2.30pm AEST time slot.

This year's edition of the AFL Grand Final pits the Richmond Tigers against the GWS Giants and will be screened live on Channel 7. 100,000 fans are expected at the home of football with gates set to open at the venue at 8am.

Richmond are currently favourites in the head to head betting with BetEasy and are rated a $1.36 chance of notching up their second flag in three years. The 2017 premiership winners can join Hawthorn as multiple Grand Final winners from this decade.

Damien Hardwick's side finished the regular season in 3rd position on the ladder and have advanced straight through to the Grand Final with wins over Brisbane in the Qualifying Final and Geelong in the Preliminary Final.

Their opponents, GWS, qualified in 6th position and will be out to join the Western Bulldogs as sides to win the Grand Final from outside the top four. The Bulldogs achieved the feat in 2016 and are the only side to do so since the current format of the top eight was introduced in 2000.

The Leon Cameron coached outfit registered wins over the Bulldogs and Brisbane in the first two weeks of the finals series before holding on for a remarkable four point win over Collingwood last weekend.

The expansion club joined the league in 2012 and after a few lean years early on, they have been regulars in September but this is the first time they have taken the step up to the decider. If they are successful it will be their first ever flag. Richmond, who joined the league in 1908, will be out to chalk up their 11th premiership.

Among some of the other events in the lead up to the Grand Final will be the Grand Final Parade on Friday, as well as the Foxtel Footy Festival, which runs at the Toyota AFL Grand Final Live Site on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The Grand Final parade starts at midday from Spring Street in Melbourne and finishes at the Live Site at about 1pm.

On Grand Final day, live entertainment includes performances from Paul Kelly, Dean Lewis and Tones and I.
