The AFL JLT Community Series is upon us and all of the competition's 18 sides will be in action over the course of the weekend with the first of nine games commencing on Thursday February 28 when Carlton play host to Essendon.

Here is our preview of the action

CARLTON v ESSENDON
Thursday 28 February, 6.40pm at Ikon Park

Both teams have named strong lineups. Sam Walsh makes his debut for the Blues, while the former Giant, Dylan Shiel, steps out in Essendon colours for the first time. Bombers fans will be hoping for plenty from Joe Daniher, who returns from injury.

WEST COAST EAGLES v GEELONG CATS
Friday 1 March, 7.10pm at Leederville

The premiers kick off their 2019 campaign minus a couple of big names, including Josh Kennedy, while Nic Natanui won't be back until at least mid season. Geelong will be hoping for more from their youngsters and Brandan Parfitt is a player to watch.

NORTH MELBOURNE v ST KILDA
Saturday 2 March, 1.10pm at Werribee

North Melbourne were the surprise packets last season and we could see up to five recycled players in action with Jared Polec headlining those. St Kilda have been dogged by controversy in recent weeks and 2019 is do or die for Alan Richardson.

ADELAIDE CROWS v PORT ADELAIDE
Saturday 2 March, 4.10pm at Port Pirie

Adelaide kick start their path towards redemption after a disappointing 2018 and welcome back Brad Crouch. They face their cross-town rivals, Port Adelaide, at Port Pirie and we can expect a strong showing from the Crows in this one.

GWS GIANTS v SYDNEY SWANS
Saturday 2 March, 7.10pm at Blacktown

It will be interesting to see how GWS fare this season after losing another batch of players in the trade period last year. They take on the perennial finalists, Sydney, who will need to find the right formula without Lance Franklin, who has been struggling with a groin injury.

BRISBANE LIONS v HAWTHORN
Sunday 3 March, 1.40pm at Burpengary

Lachie Neale makes his debut for Brisbane and is set to take on a Hawthorn midfield minus Tom Mitchell? Can the Hawks coach, Alistair Clarkson, conjure up a plan without his star midfielder or 2019? This shapes as an interesting one.

RICHMOND v MELBOURNE
Sunday 3 March, 4.40pm at Shepparton

No Tom Lynch as yet for Richmond as his new side take on the team that many think will be dangerous this year, Melbourne. However, the Demons have a few injury concerns and may find it difficult against the 2017 premiers.

GOLD COAST SUNS v WESTERN BULLDOGS
Sunday 3 March, 7.40pm at Mackay

Two of the struggling sides from 2019 play off in Mackay on Sunday night. Gold Coast have a host of players form other clubs that will be gunning for selection as well as some star draftees that impressed in a recent hitout against Brisbane.

FREMANTLE v COLLINGWOOD
Monday 4 March, 6.40pm at Joondalup

Fremantle were big players in the off season and we wait with bated breath to see whether or not the likes of Jesse Hogan and Rory Lobb can save their goal kicking woes. They will find this one tough against a Collingwood side that are ready to fire after falling agonisingly close in 2018.
