Round 13 of the AFL home and away season gets underway on Thursday night, June 13, when the Adelaide Crows take on Richmond at the Adelaide Oval.

The two sides are very evenly poised on the ladder as we edge past the half way mark of the home and away season. Both have won seven of their 12 matches but it is the Crows that head in with the superior recent form, having won their past two.

Don Pyke's side come off an entertaining nine point win over GWS in Round 12 and that effort followed a two point victory over Melbourne the week prior. In the same fortnight, injury riddled Richmond have been comprehensively outplayed by both North Melbourne and Geelong.

The Tigers head in as underdogs for the game that pits the 2017 Grand Finalists up against one another. The two sides met twice in 2018 and split the ledger at one win apiece. A victory for either is vital with the bye for both clubs approaching. First bounce is at 7.50pm AEST.

On Friday night, it is a couple of the competition's old rivals that square off, Essendon and Hawthorn. The old sparring partners are precariously placed after their 11 matches so far this season.

Both have won just five games and another loss will spell serious trouble for their respective finals hopes. They should head in with fresh legs after enjoying the bye last weekend.

Essendon won their game prior to the break, taking out a woeful Carlton outfit by 41 points, while Hawthorn were overrun against Brisbane, going down by 19 after a tight first few quarters.

Saturday footy sees three games in store and the first of those features the Gold Coast Suns and St Kilda. The Suns come off another loss, this time to North Melbourne, their eighth on the trot.

St Kilda are another side that are fresh off the bye. Prior to the break, they ventured over to Shanghai in China and went down to Port Adelaide by 70 points.

Following this, Fremantle and Port Adelaide feature in what shapes as a big game for the two sides. Both are amongst the bottleneck of sides that are chasing a spot in the eight and it is the Dockers that will head in as slight favourites on the back of the home ground advantage.

Saturday night footy sees Carlton take on the Western Bulldogs and in David Teague's first weekend as coach of the embattled club he was able to steer his side to a 15 point win over the Brisbane Lions. The Blues are a great chance of making it two on the trot.

The action closes out on Sunday when North Melbourne take on the GWS Giants at Blundstone Arena in Hobart. The Roos will be looking to continue their good form under their new coach, Rhyce Shaw, and have a solid record at the venue.
