Round 19 of the AFL home and away season opens up with what shapes as a huge game between Collingwood and Richmond on Friday July 26.

The MCG encounter pits a couple of the competition's heavyweights up against one another and little separates the two sides on the ladder as we head into the final month of the regular season.

Collingwood sit in 4th position at the end of Round 18, just ahead of 5th placed Richmond on percentage. But it is the Tigers that head in with the superior form, having won their past four, while the Magpies have lost three of their past four.

Collingwood have won their past two against Richmond but the Tigers have a healthier list at the moment and have been posted as favourites in the early head to head betting. First bounce is at 7.50pm.

On Saturday there are five games in store and the first of those sees Hawthorn take on Brisbane at UTAS Stadium in Launceston. The Hawks kept their slim finals chances alive with a 24 point win over their modern foes, Geelong, in Round 18, while Brisbane have won their past five and sit in 2nd position on the ladder.

The improving side have won their past three over the Hawks, including a victory at the venue last season and another result for the Lions will see them take a step closer towards finishing top four at the end of the season.

In Melbourne, Carlton take on Adelaide at the MCG and the Blues will be out to register their fifth win under David Teague, who took over as head coach at the Blues just six weeks ago.

Adelaide desperately need the points here and are in 8th spot on the ladder, holding the likes of the Port Adelaide, Hawthorn and Fremantle at bay.

Over at Perth, the West Coast Eagles host North Melbourne at Perth Stadium and the Eagles are favoured but it is a danger game for last year's premiers, who find themselves in 3rd position at the conclusion of Round 18.

Saturday night footy sees St Kilda take on Melbourne at Marvel Stadium, while Port Adelaide face the GWS Giants at the Adelaide Oval. The latter of these two games will have a bearing on the makeup of the 8 and it is the 6th placed Giants that are favoured on the road against the Power, who are in 9th spot and can il afford another slip up.

On Sunday, there are three games to close out the weekend and the first of those sees the Western Bulldogs play Fremantle at Marvel Stadium. Both are among four sides on eight wins and the loser will be out of contention.

In Sydney, the Swans play Geelong, while the final match up of the weekend sees the Gold Coast Suns host Essendon at Metricon Stadium. It is the Cats and the Bombers that are favoured in these two.
